Years back I wrote up a list of what artists I felt had some influence on my music. Hmm - it would be fun to turn it into a list of videos at some time Smile

.......

Hmmm, I wish I'd made a list...somehow I have the feeling I forget some artists...or maybe I've heard music by them, but didn't know what it was...back in the 80's I listened to radio a lot and sometimes now I hear a song online and thanks to Internet most of the times it's possible to discover what the name of the band was/is.....

So...Justjohn: I'll check out Television, I might know some of the music....

I saw Joe Jackson perform in 1982. He opened for... get this.. The Who.

crazy

He literally got boo'd off the stage. People in the front rows were throwing stuff at him. Anything that wasn't nail'd down got tossed. It became quite the war of words between him and the audience. After about 15-20mins he stomp'd off the stage... much the delight and cheers of the crowd.

Nice list, Gideon..!

Cool, right on.

(((stereofect))) -- While I've loved the Who since forever, I also have the bootleg Stampede, which shows what assholes Who fans can be.

Cool, right on.

Asshole or not all I can say is I'm still pissed I missed ol' JJ when I chucked that frisbee at him.

What remains of The Who will be playing in Hamilton in October. I'm really not happy about having to miss that one.

But I get to see Trent next month so I consider that a fair enough trade off.

Very Happy

I don't know if there could be a Cure without Television. (Their albums Marquee Moon and Adventure, as well as the players' solo albums are the good stuff -- ie: Their eponymous reunion album just doesn't have the magic.)

I checked some Television-vids, but I'm not convinced that their music influenced The Cure...I mean, they don't sound like The Cure at all....

Anyway....before I go on, I should go back in time a little bit (although this sounds newer than The Cure in a way)....and leave a vid of 1 of my all time favs....(mentioned earlier in this thread):

Resuming...I think we're still in the 80's and I almost forgot her: Toyah.
Maybe because at a certain point the albums we're beginning to sound a bit too poppy for my taste.
But here's a vid of her (IMHO) best track (and the first I heard):

And yes....I should go on with this thread soon.....
