Remix, Compilation, Contest, Project
Created on: 05/17/08 06:43 PM Replies: 7

Coming soon...artists with upgrades will be able to create 'projects.'

Below are the 3 types of projects:

* New Song Project - With a 'new song project,' you start with a collection of samples and sounds, or a midi file, whatever works for you. Next, add some rules if you like, then finally, setup if the project has an end date. Be creative!

* Remix - Run a remix project, a great way to promote new releases or revive old ones.

* Compilation - This project provides a way to assemble a compilation and accept submissions.

With each project, you'll get a project site, a place to enter your project's rules, and terms, start and end date settings and more. Songs uploaded to a project will remain on the artists' own sites, but will be listed with the project. If the project is a remix - the remixes will be associated to the original on the 'song' pages you currently have.

Project Files/samples : ArtistServer just can't afford to host huge ZIP files of samples, so we will use outside storage solutions. So in the interface on our site, you'll enter the link to your project files so they are associated to your project. The site will provide a list of free file hosting services.

Cool, that sounds like funSmile Cool, right on.
I think I'll give that a go.

I'm getting close to finishing this addition Smile

Get your sample packs ready!

I'll post the specs on the Remix project pages so those of you who take advantage of the design tools can prepare something cool. One part of the design, is the page header, you'll have a full 990px wide space above your content to put your own html, graphics, etc.

I hope this stirs things up a bit for people - gets more artists involved and making tracks. I know for me, a good remix is a great way to crank out a new song and stretch your skills.

Enjoy! cheers

I'd like to open the new Remix/Projects area of the site with at least 2 projects.

If you have an upgraded account, and would like to run a Remix project, please message me with your request and a link to the song.

What I'm looking for:
* a solid song with good production and sound quality
* good variations in sounds
* you should be able to provide both 1-shot samples, and phrases/loops (if you don't create with samples and/or loops, you'll need to create them by muting and looping sections of your song.)
* motivation - ideally, I'm looking for an artist that self promotes and will tell others about the project.

Don't create your samples just yet - contact me first.

This is only open to artists with account upgrades since the option to run projects is only available to upgraded accounts. Let me know if you have any questions.

Smile

I'm a bit too busy, right now, Gideon...on the other hand, I still have a sample pack on my website from an earlier remix project as you might know....

Here is the Help section for "Projects" - this covers the various options you have when editing your project, the project files, and managing members/participants:

Setup
  • Project Name: Each project should have a name, which is used when listing and displaying your project
  • Project Type: We offer three types of projects
    • Remix: A remix project is where you have an original piece of media/music, and you want others to use it to make something new. You'll need to provide samples and loops, etc. from your song, even the midi file if you have one. For tips, visit the forums and ask.
    • Challenge: This project is for those who wish to duel each other . You can either start with your song and create an open challenge, or challenge another artist directly, and you each post your results.
    • New Song Project: With a 'new song project,' you start with a collection of samples and sounds, or a midi file, or even a concept, whatever works for you. Next, add some rules if you like, then finally, setup if the project has an end date. Be creative!

  • Original Song: not all projects need an original song, it depends what kind of project you want to run
  • Status:
    • Off - project is not shown on the site
    • On - project is on the site, and is open based on project dates
  • Signup Management:
    • Off - everyone who signs up is automatically in
    • On - each signup will need your approval
  • Project Dates: set the start and end dates using the following date format: mm/dd/yyyy. These define when your project 'opens' and 'closes.' If you never want your project to end, set the end date to 20+ years in the future.
  • Project Icon:    use the files tool to upload icons/images, then slect them here. This is a 60x60 JPG icon size image.
  • Project Description: For best results, describe what your project is about.
  • Project Page Design: We provide you with similar design options that you have with your site pages. Use the color picker to set the colors, and if you'd like a background image, upload it first, with the files tool, then select it here.
    • Page Background Color:
    • Header Background:
    • Header Text:
    • Border top/left:
    • Border btm/right:
    • Section Background:
    • Section Text Color:
    • Section Link Color:
    • Background Img (tiled): use the files tool to upload icons/images
  • Page Header: Entering basic xHTML is ok. This is a free content area that will display at the top of your project, just below our menu. You have the full 990px width of the site to use, and the height is open. This is not required.
  • Project Info: Entering basic xHTML is ok. This is a section that will display on the right side of the page, which is 254px wide (after subtracting the padding). This is not required.
  • Project Terms: Entering basic xHTML is ok. This is a separate page where you can define the terms of your project. Covering what can be done with your samples, with the submitted tracks, who owns what, etc. This is not required.
  • Project Members: where you'll link to edit the members of a project - or, if you are a member of a project, you'll see your submission listed here.
  • Project Files: We do not host your files for projects or remix projects. You'll need to use a file hosting service to store large files. After you upload them to a file host, return here to add the file download links to your project. Most file hosting services offer free storage, we suggest you try the following sites/services. Some people upload their files to multiple locations, when doing this, add the word 'mirror' to the file name. For best results, upload your files to more than one service. For more information and help, please visit our forums and ask your questions.
    • File Name: for the files you provide for your project, give each a descriptive name, so people know what they are clicking on
    • Link/URL to File: this would be the download link to your file on a file download service.

SW - I will try to get an Obliminal track to remix.

If I can't do that pick a P9fm tune you think would be good.
