A Present From ArtistServer To You

I have a present for all of you, your total song counts have been raised!
If you have a Freeware Artist account, your song count was raised from 3 to 5.
If you have an Upgraded Artist account, your song count was raised from 200 to 300.
Why? Because we made it through another year! We have 2 anniversaries around here, one is the date it all started, and the other is the date we first went live. We first went live on 12/05/2001, and it all started back in May of 1999 with a post to the Electronic music forums at mp3.com. Ah the old days...
The first stage of 'this' site was launched a year later (5/2000) as ElectronicBBoard.com. And another year later, on 05/22/2001, the beta site for ElectronicScene.com went live.
There's a short timeline here: http://wiki.artistserver.com/index.cfm/History
Thank you for all the music, memories, and friendship!

This means we Upgraded Artists still have a lot of work to do....

Wow... it's been that long, eh!?
Yeah... I jumped onboard after the Pay 4 Play fiasco at MP3.com that caused such an uproar. Man, that was nasty!
It's been a fun ride.

That's cool Gid, it'll be great for those freeloaders that need the extra song space
BTW, you never replied to my pm about when I need to pay next.
There doesn't seem to be any notices about it and I'm too lazy to search.
Hope you and Lou are doing good.

yes, and hopefully more will want to upgrade and get into using the site regularly

That's because you are not on the automated system since you didn't want to use PayPal. On the normal upgrade through the site, you get re-billed once per year.
I'll have to look at your account notes to see when you last paid.

we're doing well we worked in the yard all day today, had a great time. how are things with you? I've been waiting to see some of your images in the photos area

I have paypal now. It draws directly from my bank account (no more credit cards for me).
Just let me know what to do.
I've been doing great. I never thought about uploading my digital art, I'll check it out.

Great news Gideon!!
That means that those of us that with 200+ tracks that keep taking tracks down to put up new ones can just keep 'em comin', well up to 300 at least!
Now watch the total songs shoot up to over 7000 tracks, which it has been lingering around for some time. I think all the people with free acounts will make use of this new possibility very hastily.
How are the finances? Feels like i´m swearing in church with that question?

Yeah I was wondering why you were deleting recently - you should just ask for more space
>>>Now watch the total songs shoot up to over 7000 tracks, which it has been lingering around for some time.
We were getting close, but then an old member removed around 20 of his tracks recently, along with a few new users who must not have found the site to their liking. I was wanting to get up to 10,000 by the end of the year, but that doesn't look like it will happen now - so the new goal is 8,000 (166 new songs/month).
>>I think all the people with free acounts will make use of this new possibility very hastily.
I'll have to do an email blast - the last time I emailed all the members was about 15months ago. It's always interesting to see what happens when you invite 20,000 people to visit the site. Last time, our traffic more than doubled that day.
>>How are the finances? Feels like i´m swearing in church with that question?
Unfortunately, no change. We 'should' pull in around 12 upgrades per month to 'break even' and we get about 1-2 upgrades per month. Part of this is my own fault - I need to be much more aggressive about the upgrades, and I need to advertise them on the site. I bet a lot of people don't even know that they can upgrade their account. Ideally, every person who joins should get an email one month after joining with info on how to upgrade - I'm sure that could help the conversion ratio.
Thanks for asking We'll make it - we're just on the path that builds more character
BTW, a friend recently pointed me to another competitor called ReverbNation.com - they are basically doing the same things we are with ArtistServer, and they have slightly better traffic than ArtistServer. The main difference, is that they had $2.6million invested into them last year, and have a full-time staff. While I may not be making any money at this, it sure is nice to know that ArtistServer with no money or staff can compete against these sites with millions behind them. Makes me want to call the ReverbNation investors to tell them that I could have done the same deal for a fraction of their investment. I think they'd look like this when they read it:

Well, since Gideon's changes from 3 to 5 free songs and the limit from 200 to 300 we are well on our way, after lingering around the 7000 mark for ages we have rapidly passed it and are now moving upwardly fast, hehe...
