Hiya - did a track using samples from my favourite film....

Hey Gideon,
I notice you are listening to the herbaliser - jake is someone I know really well. the Wherry's are very old family friends. I often hang out at their studio in London - getting as high as a kite!! lol.
They've got a new album out too - Same as it never was - well worth a listen.
have a good shindig.

that drum line with all the stick work is sweet.
no idea what movie was sampled into this - can you give a clue? Is the title a clue?
the imagery I get from the track is 'downtown in the city on a rainy night'
I wish the bass was more defined.
I think a sax or flute drenched in reverb playing some lines here and there would work well, something bluesy would fit right in.

yeah - with a name like Herbaliser, I can understand 
I just picked up that release, the first listen was good. I have an older release - Very Mercenary, but not very familiar with it. I'll need to give it a listen again.
Does he enjoy your tunes? Do you ever remix their tracks?

Yeah - I'll have a look at the things you mention. The bass is the sample really and I have tried to pep it up with a sub following what it does - I'll try bringing up the EQ a little.
The title is a clue - I almost thought it was too easy....but obviously not!

My favourite album of theirs is actually their 2nd album: Blow Your Headphones. They are all worth a listen though. I don't think Jake quite knows what to make of my stuff. I haven't done a remix for them as yet but Jake has always made me feel welcome at the studio and shown me some trick or other on Logic - it was actually him that got me started. He always seems to have a bag of samples for me too. God knows where he gets his ganja from too! 
As yet we haven't written together yet but he turned DJ Shadow down so I'm in good company with that one! lol....
