Listening to Arbiter.
I dig the groove, I like some of the highly resonated synths that come in like 3/4 of the song, and the way that the rhythm kinda skips up towards the end is cool, actually I would have liked ot hear that more throughout the song. I'm listening on a laptop, can't give much comment about frequencies, but plays nicely. Nice job!

Arbiter sounds good, although I was hoping for a bigger sound overall after it started.

The beats work well for this. I like the distorted synths.

Transformation isn't as good but has potential. Not sure if it needs a change in direction or some better sequencing or both.

Thanks for listenin fellas Smile

@subtronik: Good ear, argh matey. Actually neither of these tracks were mastered or optimized at all.. just a wav from the master out that I converted to mp3.

Transformatiobn is actually a really detailled & intricate song, just really weird as a whole. it's idmdustrial.... Very Happy

Listening to Arbiter now....
I like the track (first impression), but you should work on the sound....

Now listening to Transformation...this sounds like it has been made for the picture above (??).
I agree with Sub: this track really has potential, again you should work on the sound....

Cool, right on.

Hmmm well the full story behind these tracks is that both of them were made for compilation competition things on idmforums.com.. where someone told me that when you submitted something to a compilation or cd like that they do the mastering & it is better not to use things like compressors, reverb, audio enhancers, etc because that is part of the mastering process.

Then reading further I found that what we do with with our pcs & DAWs is create a 'pre-master' or something & not the same thing as the 'master' you send your stuff to a studio or mastering house for.

OK So then i learned a little more about that. Apparently the real difference is that when you send stuff to a studio or mastering house is that they master your songs so that they work more as an 'album' Neutral & so there is nothing to be learned from this practice in general. some people just know more about making music sound better. There are pleny, if not more, artists & labels that release crappy music..

Heh, ok so the point in those last few paragraphs was that I submitted these 2 songs for compilations that would have someone master them if they were selected for the albums. From what I gather people at record labels & shit already know what they're looking for in songs, and also what they can do with it..

Anger - grrrrrr!

That last emoticon isn't directed at you, more the last several years i spent researching & trying to learn what people were talking about sometimes.. Personally I can make almost any song sound fine if I adjust my speaker volume & EQ a little......

Thanks for listening to my songs though Smile

um.. Oh, on the picture.. sometimes I search through stock photo & creative commons sites for things which might be useful. or inspiring.. when I made both these songs & 'movement' I just listened to the song while looking through the images & tried to find what seemed to fit..

I know, that little guy looks angry Laughing

The way I understand mastering and production is that you should leave master effects, i.e. effects applied to the track or maybe album as a whole, to the mastering expert, but still you have to use compressors and eq's etc on your individual channels, to improve your mixing, and because it's part of the way the sound fits together, which is part of composing these days.

Mastering doesn't really change how the sounds fit together, but operates more on the overall impact of the whole track, or how a track sits with other tracks (and by tracks, I mean songs, not individual recording channels Ummm... what? )

Hope that helps some and if anyone has any corrections speak now.
I will teach you the significance of insignificance

I just select a preset that makes everything sound better Smokin'!

Sorry i momentarily forgot about this thread. I meant with un-processed tracks such as these 2.. whenever I listen to music for my own amusement the only thing i really like to turn up is the bass.. and the pre-amp, for that aggressive distorted gain effect.

It is possible to use things like compressors in the mixing process of your songs but unless you have enough skill to do that, it is recommended not to use anything to enhance the audio because ultimately when you send something to be masterred, that's what they're supposed to be doing..

You really shouldn't do that.

I start with a preset (sometimes 1 I made myself), but it's almost impossible to not change any settings at all when workin with a new track.....at least IMHO....
