Pay for music?
Created on: 09/21/09 12:47 PM Replies: 4

Hi all!

Just wondering....are you prepared to pay for music?
Let's say you like an artist on ArtsistServer and you always DL his or her tunes and he/she decides to upload to a site where you have to PAY for his/her latest tunes....what would you do?

....to be honest, I'm thinking of uploading some stuff to one of these sites....I have uploaded so many tunes for free by now.....it's time to make some serious MONEY!

Very Happy

Let me know how you feel about this......

Greetings, Roland

it would depend on a few factors...

1. is it an artists whom I very much like and/or want to support - for example, I recently purchased music by Bluetech, Ochre, and AEM, all of which are artists who used to post their music online for free.

2. where the music is being sold at - if it is at emusic or Amazon, no prob, but if it is itunes or anywhere else, I probably won't go to the site, so I'd never buy the music. For example, I only bought music by the artists listed above because their music was on emusic and I already have an account there.

I don't think there are many artists who are making much money by selling their music online. The best way to make money, is the way musicians have always done it - by playing live, getting paying gigs, selling CDs and shirts at shows.

Anyone making money out there? Ummm... what?

No.....sometimes I just think the artist deserves it to get payed....no matter where he/she uploads his/her music.
I tlike the fact that the artist uploads his music for free and every now and then uploads a track he tries to get paid for.

Just to support him, I am willing to pay for a track.....or album.

The only money I've ever made (except for MP3.com) was by doing shows--either my own stuff or other groups music--and selling CDs at merch tables or out of cardboard boxes.

Hell... even Die Mannequin... who opened for Marilyn Manson this past saturday... were hawking CDs directly to the audience after their set. Nobody was buying their stuff at the mech booth prior to the show, but they sure were buying them after....

Selling music online is too much like ice fishing. You drop in your line and hope something hungry swims past and takes the bait.

cheers
