Song Page: Scratchin The Funk Download: Scratchin The Funk BY: Sonic Wallpaper Stream: Scratchin The Funk BY: Sonic Wallpaper
This track started out going in a completely different direction - it had a very loud, dark sound. After a few listens, I deleted everything in the song but the drums and started over. Brillman, who hangs out here asked me where my funk went, this is the answer
All parts were played/programmed/scratched by Sonic Wallpaper, except the horn parts, which were from a sample CD.

DUDE!!! You need to make more FUNK!!! This is a sweet MP3!! I love it!! It's a new car cruisin' tune!! I also heard the excerpts from a drumline in there... Now you're speaking my language~

Now I'm gonna nag you for more funk.

it's a bit heavy eh?
more?
I'll give it a try. I recently picked up a few Funkadelic albums, so I have plenty of inspiration to draw from.
Thank you for the positive feedback

O.k. seeing as i´m the instigator of this track i should indeed comment it??!!
1) I´m so glad you found the FUNK bro.
2) I really liked the track, very positive vibe, cool main riff that is still going round in my brain even though i just heard it once?
3) You have some cool instrumentation with trumpets and what not.
4) My girlfriend was sing the main riff a minute after it stopped so i think that´s a stamp of approval as she only sings if you likes something.

Cool - I'm glad to hear the tune is working for your and your girlfirend.
It's a simple progression - so I guess it's all in the feel of the track that makes it work.

Not bad buddy - reminds me a bit of the herbaliser. Why not see if Gentle can do something with this?

I was thinking of Gentle when it was forming - I think it would need to be toned down a bit in the places where he'd drop in his vocals - so I'd probaby rearrange it.
I believe I still have his email address - I'll drop him a line and see if he's interested.
Thanks Danny Much better than how the track started out eh? This was originally the track I was calling "50 years"
Thanks for the listen.

I would keep it as it is - actually. Yes - I remember it in its "I didn't want to listen to it again" form. Well done sticking at it.
It does need another element though which I think is most obviously a vocal.

seems that song isn't turned on Danny - check the settings on it in the MyAccount area.
I have to fix the music tab here on the forums, it curretnly lists songs that are not 'on'

you must have had Legion of Spunky set as your 'primary artist' in your profile. I'll check your account.
I may have to delete your current account on the forums though...not sure yet.
back in a few ...

ok - i deleted the Legion of Spunky account - and it's not set as P9FM, which is your primary artist ID.
looks like I need to modify part of my code that syncs the accounts on the new forums. This issue would only happen to accounts with more than 1 artist under a single login - and will only happen if you toggle to a different artist for your primary artist setting. Hopefully that made sense
Glad you're diggin the track I'm working on a new one that's already feeling funky - so the funk may be here to stay.

Nice interplay between the heavy guitar chords and sax parts. Is this your own scratching?

yes, but I scratched for about 5 minutes and recorded all of it, then went back and found elements that sounded good or made sense, then built the scratch parts in the song from those.
Thanks Lodo and Plan9
