constant logging into forum

I'm using the latest version of firefox, have cookies enabled, yet still have to sign in every time I start a new firefox session here.
Is there any way to make it so I'm permanently logged in here?
-----------------------------------------
edit: I found a way to stay logged in after session ends:
I installed a firefox cookie editor: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/573
I then changed the 'CFMBB_SESSION_KEY' cookie's expiration time from 'end of session' to 2009.
Hopefully it sticks

I'll modify the login link - and give an option to stay logged in

hopefully the changes I made will work well
I first set it up so you could check a box to be signed in longer - but then thought it would be best to setup the application page to see if you are signed in on ES, and not on the forums - and if you match that case, it will sign you in directly.
You no longer have to click on a link to sign in to the forums.

Nice.
And if that doesn't work, my cookie edit looks like it will.

Dammit...
My cookie edit didn't last.
Where's the option to stay logged in longer then?

as long as you are signed into AS - the forums should sign you in if you are not currently signed in.

Bah... I've had to log in at least four times in the last few days. Both here and AS.
Also, the posting window still goes blank when starting to type, usually when just starting to type...
This forum format is buggy as hell.

This forum format is buggy as hell.
But nothing has changed on AS in terms of signing in - it has remained the same for a few years now.
There is no more signing in on this forum - it happens in the background when you view it after you've signed in to AS. How is it you can be signing into the forums?
I'm not sure what you mean by the posting window going 'blank' - it does loose focus it seems after the similies load on the right - but I've never seen it go 'blank'. if you don't see the smilies loaded yet, wait then start typing.
I use the same browser and platform as you. I'm not having any problems viewing - although I do hit the site each day.
I think you may just need to clear you cookies and re-signin, as that extension you added and the editing you've done may have caused problems in your browser.
Is anyone else having issues with the forum?

Sorry for being pissy about it Gid.
I always clear my cookies, but keep the main ones with the cookieculler firefox ext.
Maybe that's why I'm having problems, old cookies?
As for the disappearing text, it happens randomly it seems.
When I start typing in the dialog box, my type either stops or vanishes completely. A very strange bug.

no prob - i can get bent out of shape too I'm sure there are site admins on the Web who have my ranting emails printed out so they can throw darts at it
please understand that I appreciate your feedback and help - and I understand the frustration
ok - now back to the issue... it could very well be an issue w/ the cookies, as that's the only factor between the site and your browser. The forums can only be signed into after you are signed into AS - then your forums signin simply happens as the application page loads for the first time as you hit the forums.
There's 2 cookies needed for AS, and 1 cookie for the forums. Are you keeping all 3?
Why are you clearing your cookies all the time? I've been on the Web since 1996, and have never had a cookie security issue.
There is one issue I know about - but it may not be related to what you are experiencing: when people sign into the site at home - then go to work - sign in there - then go home - hit the site again - and now they see an error msg on AS stating that they are no longer signed in... because you are signed in from the other computer. To deal w/ this, I just need to catch the exception and simply log you out from the other PC/browser and skip the warning msg.
The deal w/ the dialog box - I'll open the pages up for the forums and see if there's anything odd. I think what you are experiencing could be due to the Smilies tab loading late - which steals focus -but I've yet to see it cause the text to go blank.
Are you running any other extensions? Possibly something that interacts w/ Forms?

Thanks for being understanding Gid
I keep all three cookies permanently by using firefox's cookieculler ext. But I clear all other unneeded cookies daily because I'm paranoid
I only use one computer, ever.
The late loading smiley tab sounds like the culprit for the vanishing text. The text only vanishes during the first couple of words I type.
