It seems 98% of the underground/indie labels go under after a few years. Makes you wonder how some of the few that survive were able to do it.
Last we heard, Unschooled was history... but I just found the following on a 'deleted' article on Wikipedia (ppl there delete things like crazy if they don't fit into their idea of information):
Quote:
Unschooled Records is an independent record label based in Tampa, FL . Unschooled was originally founded in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by former high-tech executive Howard Hecht in 2003 as a method to provide mainstream distribution for experimental recording artists. Although significant critical success was achieved vis-à-vis early releases by Canadian artist Decomposure and Icelandic duo Plat, the label was unable to achieve the critical mass necessary to provide the type of distribution specified in its original mission. Although many of the original artists have moved on to other labels or successful self-release projects, Unschooled is currently in the process of organizational re-engineering and plans to re-launch in the latter half of 2008.
Doofgoblin - do you know anything about this?
For those who are not familiar with this label... they signed several artists from our site including licensing a few of my songs.
