Song Icons....
Created on: 05/27/07 09:02 AM Replies: 10

Ummm... I can't seem to upload song icons. The server just keeps tellin' me the file format I'm using is either invalid not supported.

hmmm... huh?

I'm using 60X60 24bpp images, the same format I've been using for years. Is this file format not valid anymore?

I don't know

It looks like whenever I upload an image the server creates a "listing" for the file, but there's nothing there, just an link with no data. Like it's some sort of fantom file/pointer type thing.

Am I doing something wrong? Has the process changed?

Confused

I've had the same problem for a couple of months. I found uploading a .gif seemed to work even though they should'nt Confused

I'll take a look and try it out.

The process was changed - it now supports 'resizing' of the images since people were uploading icons that were extremely huge. Most people don't resize their icons first - they upload digital photos or graphics that are often greater than 1200 pixels wide. When the resizing function was added, I tested it with JPG AND GIF. But I'm sure there is a problem - I received an email about it recently.

As a current workaround - upload the song icons using the standard 'files' tool - then go to edit the details of your song - and select the new icon - then submit. Smile

I'll get this fixed soon.

strange - I just tried replacing an icon w/ a new jpg photo - and it worked.

Can one of you post that image using the Files tool and post the URL so I can check it out?

Okay... if I upload my song icon as a "other use" file, I can then edit my song and choose the image as the song icon (which I have done). But if I try to upload the image file as a "avatar/song icon" choice the upload fails.

hmmm... huh?

What browser are you using? Did the site seem busy at the time?

I just uploaded a jpg photo using the file tool, as an 'avatar/song icon' and it worked, and it worked from the songs listing in My Account, where you can click on the icon to upload a new one. The photo is getting resized and saved.

Can you upload the file just as a jpg - not for icon use - I'd like to check it out and try it. I'm going to run through the tests with IE 6.x and IE7.

For song icons - you can upload: image/jpg, image/jpeg, image/png, image/gif

I don't think it's checking for anything relating to 24 bpp, but it could be the image object doesn't accept it as a valid format. What are you creating these files in? Are you selecting 24 bpp as part of the saving settings?

You were able to upload the song as an 'other file' first, then change it to a 'song icon file,' because the image format and size check doesn't happen when you change the "file type" setting.

The "files" are all there. They're all JPG's. Help yourself. Grab any of 'em from my account or off my artist page. Knock yourself out, man... Wink

IrFanView 3.99

Been using Irfanview since v1.0 (since 1999 or so) every image I've ever uploaded to this site and those previous to it have been created in one version of Irfanview or another...

Default settings always. 24bpp is the default.

Hope that helps...

Ok - it should be fixed now.

It was an IE7 only problem - I tried your image with IE6, FF2, then in IE7... and finally, I the bug showed itself. After poking around, I found IE7 was passing "image/pjpeg" as one of the mime types - which is for progressive JPG - the other browsers must have been passing the file as "image/jpeg" because I added this mime type to the list of accepted options and it worked. I tested the file resizing and it seems to still work - so it should be rocking now Smile

Thank you for pointing that out. cheers
