name change

what do you think about name changes. I mean .. Uncle reg was fine for techno, great name. But melodicdubtronica doesn't front up too well with that kinda moniker. Its not as if I'd be alienating a huge audience !, but I keep hearing a voice saying "It doesn't feckin matter!" ... Is anyone in that boat, or been ? (feel free to mention the "old pervert" aspect of Reg. I get that a lot from friends.)

Well, I've recorded as Second Thought for the past twelve years now, and at the end of the year I'm giving it up. Partially because I don't like the name (and haven't since around the time Purlieu came out seven years ago), but I kept it up because I wanted to keep some sort of memorable name people could keep a track of, and check out my other music; partially because over the last few years I've put out music in such a diverse range of styles that most people checking out Second Thought won't be interested in half of the stuff I've released anyway - so it seemed pointless.

The main thing here is that when I decided to end the project and move on to a different name, it actually felt like quite a relief, a weight off my shoulders. It can be nice to wipe the slate clean and start again. So if you're thinking of ending it and starting again, or even starting up a second project, I'd recommend doing it because it can be quite refreshing! However, a word of warning about side-projects: whenever I've done it, I've ended up getting annoyed because some tracks fit both my 'main' project and 'side' project and it's all become very confusing.
Drug use for children has for many an education and with obvious alarm to both parents on the increase almost yearly.

Keep your main alias if you like, but just start a side project with a new name. You'll reinvent yourself, get a new 'attitude', work flow and possibly be more productive. It worked for me.
