Electro Parade
Curious track this one, interesting, full flavoured ensembleSmile Its an enjoyable listen, novel in its combination of quite eclectic elements; I'm reminded of Bill Laswell in Herbie Hancock "Future Shock"/ "Sound System" mode...thats the seriously 80's stabs and pulse percussion doing thatSmile However, the eclectic use of bongos, tablas and what not also does that. Its a soundtrack piece more than anything, or it feels like a soundtrack piece. I particularly like the moody Middle Eastern bendy instrument...can't think of the name...bouzouk or something like that! Or is that another name for a Rocket propelled GrenadeSmile I likeSmile Cool, right on.

Wrong Leg, Sucker (Sonic Funk Mix)
This has indeed got The Funk Smile I'm really into the deep bass and overall vibe of this track, just kind of grooves along in its own sense of coolness, this track is like Hal 900, its self aware and won't get deterred off mission! Though, it has better taste in music...because "Daisy Daisy" meant Hal definately didn't have The Funk
Strange comparisons aside, I like this track a lot, I guess I prefer it over the former, but both are top quality tracks, highly creative, interesting.

Cheers,
Pete Cool, right on.

The "wrong leg..." remix is certainly something different from the original. this is pretty nice.

"electro Parade" is the better of the two. you had me with the tablas Smile you ought layer some people hooting and hollering on top of this, put more of a live crowd sort of atmosphere into it.

Rah!!

Electro Parade:

Love how this starts. Whats the kick, 808?

Really like the sounds and quality here.

This starts out dark but gets a bit too happy for me at :55.

It's the horns really...

Wrong Leg, Sucker:

Is that you playing guitar? It's good but sounds a little muddy.

I like the low down feel. Nice beat work. Sounds like a completely different song.

I like them both. The production is better on Electro Parade, but I enjoyed the beatwork on the Wrong Leg remix, and also the groove and minimalism (something I'm getting back into myself)

Like Subtronik I liked the darker side of Electro but I was left wishing you made more of it - though I do like how the dark parts are bookending the main body of the track.

Wow - I have a couple of versions of this now. I take it this is the finished Electro Parade. its pretty good - nice production.

Wish this forum showed older posts when you are replying - need to get the link to other one.

Nice beat on WLS. Nice break. Not so keen on the way it progresses but it is certainly is well produced so my comments are merely a matter of taste. Nice work Gideon. Your output seems to have slowed as of late, not as much time?

Gideon is about to be a dad Wink

S.A. Fred - thank you so much for the reviews - I appreciate your breaking down of elements within the song. Bill Laswell is someone I've come to listen to more and more over the years. It's difficult to escape the guy, he's everywhere.

earshot - thanks for the listens - I had a feeling you'd like Electro Parade Smile - and yeah, some hoots and hollers would fit well in the track, especially when it opens up a bit. Good call.

Subtronik - yeah, it's a big 808 Smile I have 2 diff 808kits it you are interested. So you'd like a non-horns version of Electro Parade? I'm not sure it would work w/o the horns, it would need some other lead/melody part added. Yes, that's me on guitar and bass. Both are played through my Line6 Tone Port UX1, which is both a USB audio in, and a virtual guitar rack and amp. Muddy? The bass is, it's going though an octave effect that is a bit too much on the lower notes. Or the guitar? I think that may be caused by the flanger effect, It's not a clean tone.

Hi Sendy - nice to hear from you. Thank you for checking out my most recent tunes. I spent much more time on Electro Parade, so it's good to hear you liked the production. Wrong Leg was difficult for me to finish, I kept wanting to add more layers. After many plays and attempts to add something, the minimal arrangement finally settled in after I added the breaks section in the middle.

Hi Jack, yep, this is the final. Not too different from the last version, just cleaned up a bit and mastered. Glad you like it Smile

>>>Wish this forum showed older posts when you are replying

yeah, true. I'll look into adding it.

>>>Not so keen on the way it progresses

yeah, me too - I think it doesn't really do much, the second section doesn't bring much more to the table.

>>>Your output seems to have slowed as of late, not as much time

most of the time you have known me, I have not worked full time hours, only contracting out maybe 5-10hrs per week. This gave me a lot of time to put into the site, into my music, and the various other sites I've launched. About 6 months back, Lou's job was cut to part time and she was also pregnant, so I contracted myself full time to one client, working 9-5 for the first time in many years. So, when you work at a PC all day, it's difficult to get inspired to make tracks with a PC. I play guitar a lot, I just don't record it. I also started jamming with some guys in a garage. It's all improvisational - guitar, bass (me), drums and a wild light show. Very Happy I'll see if I can get some of the video to put online.

Sure a non horn version would work..

...just let me come up with the right sound and melody for it Twisted Evil

Good work. Smile - Now my tiny stoned mind has less to remember!!

This is pretty sweet Sonic, I love the horns. It reminds me a bit of what Matthew Herbert has been doing with the big band stuff. I LOVE when the 808 stabs come in, it feels like its going to transition to a public enemy track. And the middle eastern stuff is a cool addition to the mix. Well done, nice to hear some new music from you, i remember you went through kind of a dry spell for a while yes?
-Erik

Hi Erik - Thank you for the listens and review. I'm not familiar with Matthew Herbert, I'll have to look hm up. That 808 sure dominates - that is where the track started in it's original form.

>> it feels like its going to transition to a public enemy track

wow - thx. Cool, right on.

>>i remember you went through kind of a dry spell for a while yes?

I certainly have cut down on my output. I think it's just a matter of getting older (will be 40 this yr), and not having as much time to put into music. It's much more difficult to spend time on a track like I used to, and for the last two years, it's been more difficult to finish a track. I have a lot of partial tunes here, they usually get stuck at drums and bass. I think it's just time to alter the method to find something inspirational within the process again. I had almost joined a band as a bass player, but after a few practices, the guitarist had lost his job and could no longer do it. It was a real drag - I was enjoying the music - all improvisational - no 'songs.' I'm thinking of going back to hardware now, my rig is partially setup, so I just need to spend some time hooking it all back up, and relearn it.

Sonic the hedgehog Wallpaper!!!

Not sure if it was just me but I noticed a similar style between these 2 tracks.. really low & funky. Cool stuff, & an interesting take on 'wrong leg sucker' Smile

lol, being a huge fan of Sonic (the Hedgehog) myself, when I first heard "Sonic Wallpaper" I couldn't get this image of a room decorated with "Sonic wallpaper" out of my head I don't know
