LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Deep inside the Arctic Circle work is about to begin on a giant frozen Noah's Ark for food crops to provide a last bastion in the battle against global warming.

Within two years they should be holding the vast majority of the world's food crop varieties in splendid, frozen and permanent isolation.

Why does that seem like not long enough?? Rolling EyesSomebody didn't pay attention in geology class... I don't think any of those people in that organization truly understand how long these effects; IF they are caused mostly by us actually affect the globe, in respect to the earth's axis tilting away from the last ice age... The earth is supposed to warm up a little bit without our influence. The only deal is that we have seemed to help speed it up- but come on guys! build emergency facilities for stuff that we wouldn't need for what is it... Thousands of years???

I'd say it's not global warming they're building it for.
hmmm... huh?

If/when the pole shift happens... there will most likely be nothing we can do to prepare.

Except maybe to pop into space, but we are nowhere near that. A pole shift will rock the world for a long time as it breaks out of it's current axis and attempts to realign with the new axis.

I like the idea of creating a ark of food, etc. though - I'm just not so sure it will help.

Could it be a hedge against a nuclear winter?
