AquaDub

A mellow dub track with filtered percussion that adds a nice backdrop for the underwater tones that drip up like bubbles of air.

Strange Stuff

A catchy tune based on an a funky groovy progression. Aquadub: omg loop this and you get heavy eyed quick... hehe. Nice jam touches kinda tapping through the pieceful aquasphere...
Strange stuff: wake up from aquadub for sure. hehe, there's that sorta whistling electric guitar sound again. You like that sound...phat trombone clips... We got funk with that now... Percussion's a little bit repetative- for listening's sake but not for a drive down to the playground with a black spray-painted van and bags of candy in the back seat.

yeah... I'd have to say I dig'em both... Strange stuff seems a little bit too centered in the speakers... It sounds like everything's happening in the middle kinda thing- maybe the slightly distorted high-hat rythm could've been shuffled back & forth to give some fluff' a duff.
kewel man.

AquaDub (my fav of the two) is nice and dreamy.
Strange Stuff is equally good, although in a slightly different vein.
Yup... good stuff, Gideon.

Aquadub aptly titled, feels friendly and familiar after the deepspace mindwarp of that Youtube Shulze piece from 1977 I just enjoyed . . . thanks for sharing!

I was thinking the AquaDub is more of an ambient dub track - but we don't have that genre on the site. I think I'll add it though.
StrangeStuff seemed to need another line on top - but all the overdubs I tried didn't feel right. It's almost just right for an MC to do something on top of - or someone to sing on. I myself tend to not like vocals in songs anymore, but I can definitely hear room for them on this track. For a few weeks, there were some more spoken parts in this track - but they just didn't seem to add to it, so I deleted them.
There's 3 guitar tracks on StrangeStuff - all played live, then cut up in a few places to fix some timing issues (not loops danny), 2 were played in the same position w/ different effects, and the 3rd is played 1 octave higher to get a thick sound on the progression. The bass is played live too, and the beats were made from 2 different loops along w/ some percussion added.
Kylo - I know you are a percussionist, so you are probably listening to the percussion parts of songs more so than others. I too like variation in percussion, but for this, it felt like it needed to flow more like a band - where I usually see a percussionist holding a pattern through a whole verse before breaking it up. But - since this track does sound a bit loopy, a variation on the percussion may help it.
Thanks for the listens and feedback More tunes on the way!

I agree with Kylo about that beat. I like to hear the drums hold a pattern and yet have some more interesting divisions and fills/rolls here and there. That style of drum programming impresses me the most recently because it's the perfect balance between going nuts and having a loopy riff.
It doesn't have to be anything spectacular and maybe if the track did have some vocals in it or some other layer of goodies it wouldn't matter. Or maybe it's just my opinion. Which it is.
Anyway I liked both of the tracks though it sounds like they're very much in your comfort zone. That's by no means a bad thing but when you get the time for it I think you should try something radically different - I remember your older material being a bit more eclectic.
I love the bongos in Aquadub and the occasional pitch slides on that vibraphone-like sound (especially the one at 1:11).

I've grown to appreciate the minimalism of Aquadub a whole lot more actually. I'm reluctant to comment on other's music these days since my outlook changes so fast sometimes.

Sendy - I agree with you, my music isn't as 'risky' or 'different' as it was years ago. I'm sure some of it has to do with time, as I just can't put the hours into a track like I should and want to. Another aspect is that I've been exploring my guitar and bass as stimulation for starting songs. In the past my tracks began more with samples and hand programming with an occasional guitar part - lately, I start w/ some form of beats and jam on my bass to get things started. The end result is a more 'song' oriented structure. I do have a few other songs in the works that deviate from this pattern - I'll see about shifting gears and working on those songs more so the next batch should come out a bit different.

Aqua Dub: Felt like a 70's flash back party track. Big and bold. Great sound quality and good choice of different elements.
Strange Stuff: Very laid back. Sounded more dub than 'AquaDub'. Liked everything except the delayed clacking sounds.
