Pai Lung is a dragon name from Chinese mythology.
In Europe the dragon led a tough existence. Skewered by young heroes, branded a kidnapper of virgins, hunted and hounded by dragon hunters in search of fame and distinction, abused as a sparring partner for tests of masculinity. It was considered evil, devious and a creature from hell.
For the Chinese, the dragon is a creature of the upper spheres, to which it ascends. It possesses demonic, demigod energy, which it not only employs in a guardian role, but also for the benefit of mankind. It causes rain to fall on the fields and favourable winds to blow, embodying a portion of the fertile principle of nature. In the oldest mythology the dragon is the personification of the Yang, the male principle (with Ying representing the female principle). Consequently, in China the dragon personifies the noblest „masculine virtues“ - majesty, strength, courage, light, movement and virility.
The story of Pai Lung begins on the hill of Yang Suchow in Kiangsu. A plaque in the temple tells of an old man that sought shelter from a storm. He came to a hut and asked to enter. A young girl let him in. When he left the hut the next morning, the girl was expecting a child from him. When the time to give birth arrived, the girl produced a ball of flesh. The girl‘s agitated family sent her to the river to drown the ball. On throwing it into the river, there was a loud bang and a wonderful, splendid dragon named Pai Lung appeared. The girl fell into a faint and never awoke. From that point on the villagers venerated her as the mother of Pai Lung, erecting a shrine at the place of her burial at the foot of the hill.
The original mix from Markus Lange recounts precisely this tale. The careful arrangements of the track make it both distinctive and memorable. Dreamy, crisp electropop with sensitive, heartrending, catchy melodies.
Oliver Koletzki has remixed the track completely. The melody has a new beat, electro-house with guitar riffs, changes of harmony and a mosquito bite ;-) And is it precisely that which makes it Koletzki-like. The positioning of the bass line and its culmination make the track a floor filler.
A further remix comes from Voltique. Joxe Hegner and Sebastian Silber have pulled off a masterpiece here. Clearly structured electronic sounds somewhere between minimal and pop. The finely selected sound accents of their own, together with he samples fit the overall structure perfectly. Placed precisely onto the melody and a playful bass, there is always something new to discover.

I can totally hear the old man seeking shelter from the storm in these tracks man. Though I was completely surprised that the old man and the girl were expecting a child...I think you need to bring that up a bit higher in the mix.
So is whirlpool sex a catchy techno representation of yin and yang, what with the male/female symbolism and the image-related swirling graphics of the two? or is it about as ambiguous as the electro-pop vs. ancient chinese story relationship?
