Songs that make you cry

Just like to see what chokes people up.Crying or Very sad

The first song that made me cry was "Puff the Magic Dragon" I was about 4 or 5 and when the last verse came the tears would start.

Next one was after I was married and my wife was expecting our first child. She ran a nursery school and asked me to make a copy of Dumbo for her class. The song "Baby of Mine" plays during the scene where Dumbo's mom is in jail and she rocks him to sleep through the jail bars. Total break down for me, in fact, years later, my kids figured out that I was sensitive to this song and would fast forward to that part of the movie just to just to see my cry.

The latest one is a version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by Hawaiian singer Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole. The guy was like 800 lbs. and sang like an angel. The problem is I love the song, but I need to really prepare myself to listen to it, if I am not ready, I am reduced to a blubbering fool.

For me it's definitely Vietrmx21 by Autechre. Gets me every time.

It depends on my mood, not a particular song....

Laughing
haha I'm gonna laugh I'm a jerk. No, I might as well add that Ochre does everything for me too. Very Happy

Also, I've brought back memories listening to older stuff from a tune called 'regenerator' from Airbase. It was a very depressing time for me when I entered college and was failing rediculously; but I could have swore I was passing. (I blame it on multiple choice tests...and the return of swingRazz )

Well, that tune hit the spot anyway- very soothing.
"Energizer bunny arrested- charged with battery."

"Into The West" - Annie Lennox
"Comin' Back To Me" - Jefferson Airplane
"O Holy Night" - Rebecca St. James
"The Cat's Carol"

. . . those were just today Crying or Very sad

My sister danced to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' by IZ at her wedding, so it gets me a little misty, too. Wink The biggies for me are 'Pushing the Needle Too Far' by the Indigo Girls. DON'T LAUGH! Anger - grrrrrr! I really like them. The song reminds me of a terrible time in my life, much darkness and sadness and I used to drive for hours alone crying. Now when I hear the song I cry not because of where I am, but because of where I've been.

The other two tear-jerkers are 'In Other Words' (or 'Fly Me to the Moon') sung by Frank Sinatra and the Beatles 'In My Life' because Gideon picked out both of those songs for our wedding. Everytime I hear 'In My Life' I am transported back to that Summer night where we danced in the dirt under the stars and stared into each other's eyes for so long we forgot that we were surrounded by our loved ones! Yeah...it's enough to yank a tear or two out of me. Cool, right on.

Sometimes the Indigo Girls' version of "Uncle John's Band" makes me cry, if I'm stoned enough . . . Crying or Very sadCool, right on. and "Long Long Long" - Harrison, White Album . . .

Also, Fourier's Nadolig has done it for me too.

Lou! cheers great stories.

Leanne and I never got to do that. I mean, we've certainly shared a dance or two over the many years we've been together, but we never had that 'special' dance (where all eyes are on you). It just never happened that way for us. But... one day... someday... we will and the song? Led Zeppelin's "All Of My Love". We've both dug the song since it first came out oh, so many years ago. Wink

All My Love
(Jones/Plant)

Should I fall out of love, my fire in the light
To chase a feather in the wind
Within the glow that weaves a cloak of delight
There moves a thread that has no end.

For many hours and days that pass ever soon
the tides have caused the flame to dim
At last the arm is straight, the hand to the loom
Is this to end or just begin?
* Chorus: All of my love, all of my love, All of my love to you. (repeat)

The cup is raised, the toast is made yet again
One voice is clear above the din
Proud Aryan one word, my will to sustain
For me, the cloth once more to spin

Chorus

Yours is the cloth, mine is the hand that sews time
his is the force that lies within
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find
He is a feather in the wind

Chorus

Lou - "In My Life" was our wedding song also. It always brings a smile when I hear it. But the song I associate the most with our wedding is Talking Heads' "Naive Melody (This Must be the Place) - I had to work like hell to make sure it got played at the reception.

Speaking of George Harrison - I surprised myself when I got misty over Paul's version of "All Things Must Pass" that he did at the Concert for George.
not an Obliminal thought in his head

After George passed on I surprised myself by crying the next time I heard 'Two of Us'.

....we're on our way home....we're goin' home!

Thanks for the lyrics to one of my all time Zepplin tunes, Stereo! Wink I don't think you should 'wait' for that moment to come. I think you should plan and surprise your woman!
boogie

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is a big one for me, as well as Imogean Heaps Hide and Seek.

Those are the sad ones, Hallelujah because its hard hearing someone from beyond the grave singing about how desperate love can be, and Hide and Seek because for some reason the vocoder really articulates how empty you can feel when you get dumped.

The good cry songs = Yo La Tengo - You Can Have It All (simple happy sentiment)

I also have the same feeling for IZ somewhere over the rainbow. This post made me cry
hehe

This is weird!!! I was feeling incredibly hormonal the other day, lit a candle, popped in the live version of 'Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah' and just let myself go...nice to know we're not alone in our sniffling, eh? Wink How about Buckley's 'Satisfied Mind'? That one always gets me because he's singing about how he can die happy someday. 'Someday' just came too soon for him...

the first one that comes to mind for me is "Let's Go Out Tonight" by Craig Armstrong.

I blame Courtney Love. Anger - grrrrrr!

Funny...I blame Courtney Love for a lot of things, too... I don't know

They don't call her Courtney "tainted" Love for nothin'...

Anyone who comes in contact with 'er either commits suicide, dies mysteriously or has their career tank... crazy

i prefer movies for crying, or at least a tear in the eye..

that Rainbow song is a good one though. That guy had an awesome voice. (Same goes for Buckley's Hallelujah)

during Christmas I also like to get a little emotional over Tom Waits/Gavin Bryars + clochard singing Jesuuuus blood neeeever faaaaails me yeeet. Smile

also just a couple of days ago I disocvered an opera called Manon by Jules Massenet.. It has an aria but i forgot the title, i have a version here simply called "Manon" sung by Enrico Caruso accompanied by piano. It's awesome.
(oh i think it might be called Ah! fuyez, douce image, but not sure)

I forgot: Ever since I saw '2 Days In The Valley' prolly ten or twelve years ago I cry every time I hear Lyle Lovett sing 'Nobody Knows Me Like My Baby'

And I like cream in my coffee
And I like to sleep late on Sunday
And nobody knows me like my baby
And I like eggs over easy
With flour tortillas
And nobody knows me like my baby

And nobody holds me
And nobody knows me
Nobody knows me like my baby

But it was a dream made to order
South of the border
And nobody knows me like my baby
And she cried man how could you do it
And I swore that there weren't nothing to it
But nobody knows me like my baby

And nobody holds me
And nobody knows me
Nobody knows me like my baby

And I like cream in my coffee
And I hate to be alone on Sunday
And nobody knows me like my baby
