It works, and apparently if you just visit the forums as an artist/member you see your name, even if you aren't signed in.....is this correct?

it's showing your session is still active on the forums, or that the query that generates the listing of users is cached or something like that. I'd have to open code for the forums and see what's going on.
The forums and the site log you in separately and manage sessions separately - and the forums may recognize you.

Hmmmm, if you just stop by on the forums-page (no login), your name doesn't show up. But if you login and logout, your name stays there. (Until you shut down your computer, I guess(?))

The main thing to keep in mind, is that the forums exists on a different server, domain name (forums.artistserver.com), and has it's own login/session scheme. The main site and the forums can share data, and cookies, but each one has a different means of handling sessions and signing in. The forums is an open source app I modified then setup to work with ArtistServer.com.
"if you just stop by on the forums-page (no login), your name doesn't show up."
The only way you're name will show up on the forums, is if your session is 1. active w/ the forums still, or possibly 2. the forums recognizes you from before - from a cookie I believe
it sounds like you signed out of the main site, and not the forums.
Since both the main site, and the forums each have their own session management and signin, they each have their own 'sign out'
--------------
I'll look into making the forums signin/signout something you don't experience or notice - that way the main site login would work for both, and you'd no longer need to click on the 'sign into forums' link

the query which pulls the data for the listing of users is cached - meaning, it's not run every page load - this helps speed things up. The next time the query is run, your name would not display.

Oh! I almost forgot: there are no polls-possibilities in the new forums, I would love to have them back...

It's possible that the open source forums app we are using will evolve to add polls, and when it does, I can add them here. Or, if there's enough people wanting polls, I can add it to my development list and build it in - although, the last version of our forums did have polls, yet people hardly used them.

You're right, Gideon, but that doesn't necessarily mean they don't like it: sometimes it's a very nice & handy feature...
Maybe organize a poll about this theme?

Gideon
If I get it right, there is no search engine for artist names in AS. I mean, I can't find a way to search for a name if it exists in AS. The search engine, as far as I understand, give results only regarding track titles and not artist/band names.
Is it possible that you incorporated a search engine for artist names? Maybe there is one, but I cannot find it
But, even if it exists somewhere, I think it is well hidden and not evident.
Happy New Year Gideon and Lou!!

It depends on where you are searching - and what 'tab' is selected. Most pages that do have a search box, are setup with search tabs - where each tab is a different type of search.
>>>Is it possible that you incorporated a search engine for artist names? Maybe there is one, but I cannot find it
Searching For Artists - there are 2 locations.
Location 1: Homepage
- Click on the AS logo in the top left side of the site's menu above
- once the page loads, click on the search tab for artists - which are just above the search box
- then type your search into the box
- click on go - and you'll see results
Location 2: People Page
- Click on "People" in the site's menu above
- once the page loads, type your search into the box
- click on go - and you'll see results
>>>But, even if it exists somewhere, I think it is well hidden and not evident.
Maybe you aren't familar with search boxes with tabs. It's a design pattern that's been on the Web for a few years - I think Yahoo was the one who made it popular. I have a few things available for search, and didn't want to have several boxes. I tried to make it as obvious as possible by placing the search tabs near the top and center of the pages they appear on. I'll look them over and see about placing a small line of text that explains you can click on the tabs for different types of searches.
There used to be a page for listing and searching for artists - and another for members - they were merged into the 'people' page. I felt "artists/members" was too long for a page title, and 'people' was something i saw on a few other sites. Did you feel it was a page for members and not artists?
I also have a link on the People page to the original artists page - near the top right side of the page.
>>>Happy New Year Gideon and Lou!!
Yes and happy new years to you too
