Stuff I can't get done :(
Created on: 10/30/06 10:49 PM Replies: 8

I'm sure we all have little grooves/ideas/loops we like but can't make full songs out of. Here are 4 i have on mind, or that i haven't lost yet, unmastered. The fourth on the mp3 is my favorite, most likely to complete.

rocking

I have piles and piles of unfinished stuff, the result of many many years of making music......

You must be able to make a few good tracks with this stuff...
Especially the last one with John...

i like the gritty drums in the first one.. some of the synth noodlings are a bit too sweet for err.. the rest of the vibe.

second one.. great intro. bring the bass! (2.00) great guitar work so far.. where's that phat bass.. Ummm... what? (by the way also really dig the funky vocoder whatever thing.. sexy Very Happy)
ok this one could easily be a great track.. just concentrate on the bass first.

third: oh a more gentle one.. oh this one is very short right?
not really interesting.

fourth: oh this is another manic crazy one. great. BEEFHEART style.
Smokin'!Smokin'! this needs deep vocals.. Tom Waits mumbles. this is very good so far. i think the drums needs to be even more agressive.
Twisted Evil especially the hi-hats are still too gentle. hey vocals! nah this fella is too nice.. he needs to be mad and drunk.
Anger - grrrrrr!WTF? i suggest listening to Hoist That Rag by Tom Waits.
(another good sketch though..)

haha, dont feel bad, I was counting my unfinished tracks the other week, and stopped in the 200's.
I always go back to them when i'm feeling 'uncreative' or in a bad mood.

I honestly like the sound of all 4 tracks, very downtempo & ethereal (except for trk 4). Lovely stuff! Track 2 caught my attention especially. And I dig the chords on track 3. But all 4 are good material, so finish them ALL!

take care man!

music...

I could always combine stuff into 1 song but that could be hard.
I've been going deep into my CD collection I have ripped to the PC, about 3700 songs, and 5 GB left (new PC time soon). I have more fun sampling than making new sounds sometimes. Maybe thats because I have no real synths or software. I love mixing really differnt kinds of music. That last song on the track has Sonic Youth, The Doors, John Lennon, The Raconteurs, Soul Coughing, and Genesis (live), so far. Fun

hehe i have a neil young loop that i can listen to for hours on my laptop.
(no vocals just some kind of orchestral swell)

Check all 4 twice and they are all orginal and good. Cool, right on.

The sound combinations are excellent and i especially liked the 3 rd and 4th one with the voice (John Lennon?), my girlfriend liked all of them too. Very Happy

The 3rd one had some lovely harmonies, almost like the chords were descending, you should definitely get a B part going on that one. Cool, right on. How about the opposite with chords ascending? Laughing

As i said they were all good, loved the rytymical piano melodies juxtaposed against the drum beat in the 1st one too, keep 'em coming. music...

I dug a lot of the first sample, if you could get like some female vox over the top of it, it would remind me of a Zero 7 outtake or something. I'm gonna check the rest.
