crash!
yeah - too bad. Seems like that is the destiny of probably 85% of the indie labels out there.
The good thing, is that they put out some great music and gave it a go

My opinion is that file sharing will kill all labels eventually.
Or can labels survive on touring bands alone?
I think it's possible that in the future, musicians will create music for respect instead of money.

Well, signing to a label doesn't necessarily mean you're in it for the money....
I don't think labels will disappear entirely in the future...

File sharing isn't what's killing labels. File sharing has been going on for decades. (i.e. Deadheads, TD fans and fans of countless other genres have been sharing soundboard recordings and home-made tapes for years)
Branding, inferior, over-priced product from greedy, untalented upstarts and veterans who should've retired years ago as well as companies that refuse to get with the times and embrace technology is what's killing labels (EMI is the latest example of that).
That may be an over-simplification of the situation, but it's the essence of the problem. And it's being ignored on a grand scale.

It's true that corporate greed dug the grave for large companies but the side effect has been a collective habit of downloading everything for free, which has hurt small businesses as well.

Solution-- Completely seperate money and music. Those two seem to not get along very well.

labels are good (and not as good) for many things.
first thing that pops to mind: taking a load of work off the artists.
I was self-releasing for a while before having my first label release. It's a lot of work. I wasn't very effective. things were completely different with my label releases. and effective.
but of course, like with all things, there's the possibility that something(s) will go wrong. it's a risk. and it still takes work.
