Can someone help me decide?

Someone wants to use my song "Fiona's last stand" in their video production. But that would involve giving some big corporation the rights to my song. They'll give me a percentage of the profit, they say. But my trust in the human race is waning these days. Here's the email:

Hi Alexandra (and sorry for mail's length),

--------------------
First, let me explain how metacafe.com works:

I submitted my video in their "Producer Rewards" program (my page: http://www.metacafe.com/channels/La+Loutre+Furtive/ ).
After a video is approved by reviewers (and mine is), it has to reach the threshold of 20.000 views with a minimum rate of 3.00 to begin earning money.... And as you saw it, my vid made it!
From this threshold, Metacafe pays 5$ for every 1.000 views + 100$ for the first 20.000 views.
Right now, it has been watched 21.236 times, meaning it earned about 105$. But it still didn't take off seriously (maybe it will, maybe it won't...).

For info:
--- 3 hours ago, I received the money I earned for my other video which is (curiously) extremely popular (1966$ for about 400.000 views in only 20 days). Since I use Paypal to receive money, it actually ate like 120$.... It's about to reach 600.000 views right now! ^^
--- "Top 15" vids have been watched from 840.000 times to 2.000.000, plus 2 vids reaching 5.500.000

But in order to be paid, I have to sign a "non-exclusive license agreement" with metacafe for my vid: I keep all rights on my video and I'm still able to do what I want with it, but so does Metacafe; they become owner of my production and can do what they want with it. It mostly means they sell vids for mobile phones, after modifying them or not.

If you agree to let me use your music, it would mean that Metacafe would own the first 3 minutes of "Fiona's last stand" and you would still be owner of it too.... I don't think they would do lots of things with it, but they could, for example, use part of it the way they want....And yes, I understand it doesn't sound cool to your ears!... But no worries, nothing is done yet, I'm no crazy teenager ^^
--------------------

The easiest for me would be removing the vid from Metacafe and re-submitting it with no music or asking a friend of mine to perform something with his piano, so I would keep 100% of my earnings.
But money I earn on Metacafe is like coming from nowhere, it's not a job, rather a leisure/hobby.... And I really appreciate the way the video sounds with "Fiona's Last Stand" =) ....
I don't like talking about money at all..... I really hate it.....All I know is that I won't give you 50% of vid's earnings, nor 1% only ^^
Please let me know what you'd like to get, what percentage or what amount....So I'll be able to decide what to do with my video.
A detail: if you agree, just know my girlfriend may still say "no way, I prefer modifying the vid!!" =)

And about credits: I can't add it to the vid unless I remove it first, meaning I'd lose those 21.000 views....But I still can add it on the description of the video and on my Metacafe channel/page.

Once again, I would easily understand that you don't want to share the ownership of the first 3 minutes with Metacafe, but if so, please answer me quickly so I'm able to modify my vid before it's getting too many views.

Thanks for your kindness .....and patience
regards,
Geoffrey

I'd really appreciate any input anyone has, because this really isn't my kinda decision (My gut reaction is to say 'no')

I'd say no too.

It would be good promotion, and it's only one track.

You can't risk not getting paid on a single track? Are you making money off your music now?

Even if you don't get paid they'll still have to give you credit.

I think in the end it can only help you.

Yeah I agree with Subtronik. What the hell... you need exposure and if you don't get paid, then at least you didn't lose money. Rolling Eyes

One thing, he can't put my name in the credits, because it's all ready made. So he can only credit me on the webpage. That's not really good enough for me, but I don't have a head for this sort of thing - yet.

Thanks for your input guys.

EDIT: Also, if this company likes the tune, they can use it on whatever they want without crediting or paying me. Not that they would, but nothing is there to stop them..

So you'll get credit on that then. Seriously, a big free single track exposure can't hurt.

I know that when I hear a song I really love I'll search the earth to find the creator, so I can get more from that same artist.

In cases like this I would contact my union....I would hate it if someone used my music without even mentioning the creator...
