Hi girls and guys, I just thought I'd drop in and see how you all were doing.
Oh and to talk about me of course
I had the longest ever writer's block which lasted almost without respite until the beginning of this year (and started in 2004) - I think caused by my ex boyfriend in the States who I have subsequently dumped and feel a lot more empowered because of it. Talk about selfish love...
Anyway, at the end of last year I joined a called Electro Magnetic Workshop, we play our own songs sort of in the gothic/industrial/pop/rock/electro/synth stylee. I've played 2 gigs already and done a few interviews with the band, and it's been an absolute hoot and I love it. I do production, help with songwriting and composition/mixing etc, and play keyboards and tech stuff at gigs.
Being in a band has breathed new life into my Absurdist Lover solo project and I've just started really getting into Renoise for the drill and bass judo death grip fish killing madness. I still use Cubase but I'm really loving the way Renoise facilitates ideas so quickly, especially since I generally work at the sampling rather than synthing level. (Though it's support for VSTI's is nothing short of phenomenal)
I may post some new songs at a later date, I just finished an 8 minute breakcore workout that I'm rather taken with.

I've been living in female role for over a year now, and have been on hormones for a year and a half. The transition DID make me lose my footing as a composer but I am finding them again slowly in my new perception of myself.
What have I missed around here? I hope to hear some good news!

Well, I'm trying to make one....or... even several maybe...I'm experimenting with a lot of diff. styles and sounds, and I listen to the things I have done over the past 25 years...(yes, I'm that old) trying to find out how I should go on. Which is sometimes difficult because I'm interested in so many styles of music....
Every now and then I release something, make a remix, or sometimes don't do any music at all...

Listening to my old tunes is always fascinating, especially since I can remember quite vividly my state of mind and the events that surround most of them. My very early stuff has a naivety about it that I find inspiring, and a lot of the mid-time (7 years old) music has this thing where I'm trying to tone my ideas down and develop something more accessible, but it comes across to me more as sounding boring these days
It's amazing how personal growth and insight can affect you as a musical entity both in how you listen to and compose music.

Amen to that! I questioned myself as to why a female friend of mine liked my music and even said "I want to be in your band!'. I went through a period of not liking to listen to several of my pieces because I heard so much pain in them (only I seemed to hear that though) and I wanted to do 'happy music' but I couldn't be phony about it, I was looking for something I couldn't put my finger on. Anyway in speaking to this friend recently I realized she had a similar background of struggle, alienation and vulnerability and then I thought ahah! some of my own angst was vibeing with hers on some subtle basic level. We have yet to do music together but that may change as i may soon be geographicly closer. Besides all that bla bla bla ... glad to see you back around!

I also like that statement about change as time goes by. I am trying a lot harder not to sound so damn happy go lucky and each time I maintain that, I come up with something a lot more earthed and real to more people. Finding the median if you will... I just need to remember to take my time and also to watch how much time I take on a track. Sometimes I over-listen a project in the making and end up trashing it because it gets just downright boring after a while. I bet I re-listen all my work damn near 1,000 times before posting it online now.
Anyway...
Interestin' tracks there Alex. I must admit, it is a bit too tamed out for me- and I certainly don't believe that your composing mind has completely changed. You might feel like not composing what you did anymore, but you still got it.
Just keep making them, because we're all enjoying this unique idea of gender based tastes.

Well, I think there's nothing wrong with making happy music if you feel that way....

Actually I'm not sure I really appreciate the "one hand washes the other" ethos which is encouraged here. How many people just feign interest in other music just to appear to be participating and get their own stuff reviewed. I tend to think that if people like my music, they'll listen to it, regardless of whether I've posted reviews of others' songs. Plus sometimes I don't like something and put my foot in it, and then I wish I never said anything
Not that I'm criticizing this place, just a thought I had. Anyway, I'm going to visit a bit more often and see what's happening.

Personally I tend to listen to artists more if they visit the boards and/or write a review for one of my songs... Just because I'm interested in what those artists produce themselves if they like my music.
And it's almost impossible to listen to all AS-artists, you just have to pick a few, and most of the times these are the ones with names I've seen before in the forums....I think it just works that way for most people, correct me if I'm wrong....

I usually don't comment on a song at all if it's not a genre I'm into, like industrial or breaks. Or da classical... haha...
