Edit The Beatles White Album down to 1 LP
Created on: 02/05/07 11:05 AM Replies: 16

I have been on a Beatle kick lately - I guess it started when I got the Love album for xmas.

I remember seeing a quote or mention that George Martin had always pushed for the White album to be a single album. But the "boys" just weren't up to the task of editing the tracks down.

So today's challenge is for you AS member to make the tough calls. Remember we are talking about LP and not CD album lenghts. I took a look a the American release of "Revolver" - 14 songs clocking in at around 36 minutes.

So here is my cut - it is basically a John album and much heavier

Dear Prudence
Glass Onion
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
I'm So Tired
Blackbird
Julia
Yer Blues
Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
Helter Skelter
Long, Long, Long
Revolution 1
Cry Baby Cry
Good Night

Haven't thought about sequencing these, but you get the idea
not an Obliminal thought in his head

the beatles Crying or Very sad
Evil or Very Mad

maybe one day i will appreciate 'em. Smile

as for "old" music.. i checked out Paul Simon's Graceland. Nice Smile

I knew you would post about disliking the Beatles Razz

BTW - Graceland is stolen music not old music just one more white boy using black peoples' musical mojo

Not that I dislike the music on Graceland, I just don't give Paul Simon that much credit for it.

Nice to see Long, Long, Long on your cut. I'd add 'Sexy Maharishi . . . er, Sexy Sadie' too!

Yes Neil rules, I actually like the DVD better than the CD - I am a bigger fan of electric Neil, though you may want to check out his very first solo LP.

I hope your children become Beatles fans Twisted Evil

"Bad jokes, don't ya just love 'em?
Bad jokes, can't get enough of 'em"

LaughingCool, right on.

I really enjoyed Prairie Home Companion and will sorely miss Robert Altman. The dvd I Netflixed had among the Bonus Features some full length versions of songs that appeared in the flick. Good Shtuff! Those musicians are just spectacular. They Don't Make Mistakes . . . ever! Or if they do they hide them really well . . .

In an attempt to get the post back on track - Here's a link that gives some history and gives you th eopportunity to post your on versions of the White Album

I think that was one of my favorite forms of rebellion in my childhood home: listening to the Beatles...ALL the time! It drove my parents insane! Twisted Evil

Of course, after that it got personal...and ugly. Mom started playing Prince.
(sigh) To each his own.

As far as the While album is concerned, I really can't change it. I tried. Sure there are tracks I'm not in love with...Number 9 being one of them, but I have to agree with Voltage, each track belongs right where it is. music...

I even listened to number 9 once in a while; used to play it backwards & hear all forward parts (remember the 'Paul is dead' period?)

On the Anthology TV special I believe Ringo said something like "there was way too much information on that album & should've released separate lp's".

Turn me on, dead man . . .
Paul is dead, miss him, miss him, miss him . . .

Did you ever do the pocket mirror thing with the cover of Sgt. Pepper?

One Plus One Plus One (arrow) Lonely He Die

We once did a weekend up at PSU collecting all the clues we could find and discovered the clues went all the way back to Meet The Beatles. They're all touching but . . . PAUL IS STANDING OFF ALONE!!! Shocked

back on Neil's debut album.. I really like The Old Laughing Lady. Probably the first time he used certain chords which he would recycle in his "ballads" the next 30-40 years. ;)

Neil's first solo LP is actually one of few Neil Young records I don't own Sad

But I figured you would appreciate it. My favorite tracks from the record are "The Loner" and "I've been Waiting for You".

You should also try to find the Buffalo Springfield song "Expecting to Fly". It's a Neil Young song with a great orchestra arrangement
not an Obliminal thought in his head

soulseek tells me expecting to fly was used in fear and loathing in las vega (the movie) I didn't notice it there.

(or any Neil Young that's what I mean)

ah Neil Young.. Comes A Time must be my favourite of his lp's.. (Neil Young falsetto) But I told that a thoouuusssand times before.
