Happy B-day USA!!!
We had our B-day holiday on Monday (Sunday was the actual B-day). Legislated long weekend for us Canookies. Yup... the feds actually changed the law so we could have a day off.

So, I was trying to get some sleep... and I kept getting woken up by these loud pops... I was starting to get pissed off... then it hit me... isn't it the 4th? Duh... guess I shoulda gone to bed sooner. Oh well.

San Diego definately doesn't allow fireworks. With all the dry grass in the canyons, fireworks would definately create a problem.
We're in Kauai right now, and they still allow fireworks. It was difficult to walk by the stands seeing 'bricks' of ground flowers, and boxes with a wide assortment of classic fireworks. For some reason you have to buy a $25 fireworks permit, I assume that's to cover the expenses in keeping the firemen and police on alert all day. 
It's the drunk people that are more dangerous than the fireworks though. Right now, in San Diego, the beaches are packed with people and gallons of beer being consumed... ah the good ole days!

Wow- you know what; despite the fact there is strict law, a lot of people were just blowing off tons of stuff in my neighborhood like it was... well not against the rules at 2 in the morning...
Some ass hit my car with a bottle rocket that seperates into three little spinners! I saw that they were shooting them off on their roof in sporadic periods so no one could see them doing it. (bullshit)
I grabbed my green laser (good to be an astronomer) and probably scared them for like 5 minutes.
Okay, so maybe I didn't scare them, I probably intrigued the night right? 
Kauai?? oooh...  Somebody loves somebody... Get some sweet shots guys!

I'll try and post some photos soon, Kylo. I did get some sweet spinner dolphin pics.
I admit I got caught up in the excitement on the 4th, and since fireworks were legal, I decided to light my first firecracker! Wheee! While my niece and nephew watched, I managed to burn myself and 'throw like a girl'.  "Way to go, Auntie Lulu!" Just like me to set a good example. I still have a nasty mark on my left hand.
Sorry to hear about your car, but I would have loved to have seen their faces when you shined your 'Mystery Green Laser Light' at them.
