hello all!

some of you may remember me, some may not, but i sure see a few names i recognize around here from back in the day. for those of you who don't, my name is chris, i was one of the early early members of this community back when it was the EBB, then electronicscene. i posted as dr. science and made music under that alias as well as cats on earth.

i was a very active member of the boards back then and honestly, i thought sonic wallpaper closed this place down many years ago...perhaps i jumped shit a little too soon. hah. my bad.

anyway, i just wanted to pop by and say hi to everybody that still posts here. not much of a forum dweller anymore, so i probably wont be around much, but i thought i'd pass along my info in case anyone wanted to keep in touch and see what i've been up to for the past few years.

haven't really been producing much lately, been on a bit of a hiatus (aka crazy work schedule), but i've cataloged a lot of my past releases on my myspace page in the form of a mini web-store. feel free to check some of it out, there's 30 sec. samples of each track and some full ones in my player as well if you're not looking to spend any money.

add me, message me, say hi, check some tunes, spread the love! i'd love to hear from you all and see what you've been up to as well.

cheers,

chris.

Hi Chris - long time no hey! Smile

>>>i thought sonic wallpaper closed this place down many years ago

Not at all. The site has never been offline since the beginning. Well - there's been a few hiccups in the 7 years the site has been on the Web, but never down for more than a few hrs.

I've been building out the site over the years, recording music still, got into game design a bit with the Unreal game engine, still working as a contract programmer and happily married with 2 great dogs. We're still in San Diego - the fires months back came close but didn't get our home.

While the activity on the site has slowed down over the last year, the traffic to the site has remained fairly steady. The site continues to grow in members and music, unfortunately though... the site still doesn't cover it's expenses. While new artists join the site and upload, the number of people who upgrade their accounts is very low.

Glad to hear from you and that you are well Smile

Hi, I remember seeing you on here a long time ago. If I remember correctly, didn't you do a Bjork remix or was that someone else?

I remember the forums being down for a long while one time, maybe that's why you thought it was shut down. Actually, I think we lost a lot of activity on the board since that happened.

Good to see ya Very Happy

hi, i think you did a good job with your myspace page Smile

the arrows on water ep is still on my hd Smile (and i recommend it to anybody who hasn't heard i)

hey gideon (and lou, since i'm sure she's lurking around here somewhere too),

dunno why i thought the site was going down...maybe i just got spooked by some rumblings of closure. i vaguely remember something about the site being too expensive for you and right around that time i fell off the cyberspace grid for awhile as well. good to know you're still goin' strong over here. the site is looking great. now that i know its still here, i'll definitely be using it more and recommending it to others to upload and find new music.
game design, eh? how's that working out? i've always been interested in learning about that. are you working with a developer or just on your own (if so, how'd you get ahold of the unreal engine?)?

tecknixia - yep, i did a bjork remix a few years ago. thanks for remembering! dunno if it was my best work, but it was a fun track to work on (a little tricky tho). if you go to my myspace page, to the music store widget and open up the album called "CoE sessions" you'll find the track there along with several other remixes of ES/EBB/AS artists like send, ganzfeld, ninth key, disfony, axon ember, dexter methorphan and captain ahab. [/spam] ah, the nostalgia!

multi-panel - thanks! i still rock the multi-panel pretty regularly. good to see you're still around doin' your thing.

everybody else, hola!

music...

Yola~ Smile

I think you already mentioned that you haven't done any performances for a while, but if and when you do- I'll come around the corner and bust a move w/ ya.

Since we B in da same city. cheers

(Then BrainBelly comes to mind- he's across the bay from me too...)

we really need to plan a big party some day - maybe this summer would be good. We could camp out in the middle of nowhere with a generator Smile

The site certainly did have some issues years back - and I was considering shutting it down, but I just couldn't do it. Instead, I turned off the join form for about 6 months, recoded a lot of the site to optimize things, and scaled up to 3 servers. After those changes were put in place, the site ran much better and was able to sustain much more traffic. That was back in 2004.

In terms of game dev. - when you buy Unreal Tournament, they give you the editor, source code, assets, etc. that are used to make the game. From there, you can either fully customize it and make your own game (a mod) or you can just make your own maps for Unreal Tournament. A lot of companies are licensing the Unreal engine, so it may be available with other games. It's quite amazing technology. I love working with it because it's a blend of art, logic, creativity, technology, programming and emotion. What I hope to build is something you could call a musical environment - where you'll move your character around to interact with objects in the 3d world to generate and perform music. Unreal Tournament 3 is burly though... so if you are considering it, you need to have a high powered PC to get good results. The game was designed for next-gen systems. Unreal 2004 can still be purchased, and is just as fun to use for game design. Be sure to get the DVD version - it has a 2nd disc w/ training vids that will teach you most of what you'd need to know.
