Hi All -
Lou and I belong to Netflix, which provides us a fairly nice collection of movies to watch both though their DVD by mail service and their online streaming.
Unfortunately, over the last few weeks, we've watched a few movies that just haven't been very good - for example:
* Apocalypto: wtf happened, how did they end up making a movie that was essentially one long chase scene.
* The X-Files: I Want to Believe: weak - this looked like a leftover script from the series that was nothing more than a weird FBI murder case
* Indiana Jones/Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - hmm not so good, not horrible, but just kinda weak - for example, inter-dimensional beings... yet they looked like the classic 'grey' aliens?
Fortunately, we are a few seasons behind on South Park, so we've been catching up and laughing along the way. Matt and Trey, the guys behind South Park sure push the limits. It's quite an offensive show if you have thin skin. I can't believe the topics they cover . I just wish they would do longer commentaries in the DVD extras - hearing about how the shows came about is often just as funny.
So - what have you been watching? Anything good? Bad?

YouTube vids mostly....have purchased some gear...but the gear hasn't arrived yet, so I have to be patient. Instead of playing myself, I watch others playing on YT....

I'm back to re-watching Deadwood, but last month, my sister sent me DVDs of the Canadian series Slings & Arrows, which chronicles the travails of a Shakespeare festival.
Paul Gross is very different from his role in Due South, and Mark McKinney does some of the writing and has a role.

I own a ton of DVDs I rotate for rewatching.
Last night:
Children Of Men - very dark but I keep watching it.
Inside Man - very good. needed a different score I think.
I watched The Dark Knight for the first time on DVD when it was released. Then I watched it 3 more times in two weeks. Very good!

www.southparkstudios.com lets you watch any full episode. I've been unwinding with this every chance I get.
(and don't get me started on Apocolypto... It was cliche 'bad crazy guy' character and the epic 'chosen one' that we; and John Claude Akle Van Dipshit can't seem to get away from with Mel Gibson stuff.)
I will give it a thumb up for chase scene footage though, it was rather fun to watch.

Right side list more recent views. Top item is "Gonzo: the life and works of Hunter S Thompson" which I just watched Monday and probably influenced how I posted this T-Rex I just couldn't get into, just was interested what would be produced by Ringo Star "Making Waves" was light fare for when you dont want to think but want pleasant things going on. "Waiting for God" is a series I keep watching every so often and was pleased to se it available for instant view on Netflix. I haven't watched any TV for 6 months ( well except for some brief glances at football on a pizza Parlor wall) and I find it wonderful to have things to watch without commercials. Last item on right "Porco Rosso", is um...kinda about a Flying Pig. From the amazing Hayao Miyazaki, and Studio Ghibli.
Left side recommends from earlier this year (note 'doc' if for Documentary)( no the documentary is not an Anime)

I thought I was the only one who saw Tideland. Or at least liked it.
Death Race That Jason is just unbelievably ripped. 6% body fat. Here he is from that flick, doing pull ups: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIabZ9gGOfM
. . . I think the guard in that scene is the 'bad breaker-upper' from Seinfeld.
Also just watched 'Casino'. It was cool. They cast all these has-been comedians as mobster-heavies. Interesting seeing Don Rickles getting the shit kicked out of him by Joe Pesci. Pesci makes out with Sharon Stone too, but that's just yucky.
Today Netflix delivered 'Encounters At The End Of The World'. Keep ya posted.
Oh, 'Brand Upon The Brain' was neat, and Tarkovsky's 'Stalker' was REALLY neat . . .

for sure...
Been a while (years actually) since I watched that one. My copy is on VHS (double tape version). Came recommended to me via Matthew Florianz some years back....

Paul is a pretty cool guy to meet as well. Used to bump into him regularly at the local grocery and LCBO stores when he lived here in town. We just watched Paul's latest effort... the film Passchendaele on New Years Day and it gets from us.
And if you are a Mark McKinney fan you should definitely check out The Kids in the Hall. Hilarious sketch comedy with a very unique twist.

More than a little surprised by this one...

Battlestar Galactica!! Can't wait for the finale of season four and the series! I must say this series has been IMHO one of the best things on TV for a long while, great story, great acting, and great effects, set etc. If you haven't seen this, and your into Sci Fi, go check it out. Its brilliant.
...and Tricia Helfer's a great Cylon

Battlestar galactica... the camera angles make me nuts. I tried to get into it but I can't stop thinking about the guy that shakes the camera around while filming.

OMG. Folks... you simply HAFTA watch the BBC series "Planet Earth". It's absolutely stunning. Jaw dropping stuff like this doesn't come along very often. But this one is definitely a jaw dropper. A winner. Trust me. Just go out and buy it. You will NOT be disappointed.

yeah - we ran though "Planet Earth" - and it was amazing. This is what should be launched into space to exist as a record of the planet's existence. It's something one could watch over and over - or just set to go in the background with your own music on when ppl are over.
Battlestar Galactica... mmmm good! We saw 1 episode years back, while on vacation, and thought the show was not for us. Then last year, we gave it a try, and found it to be an excellent show. Yes, the camera movements can be odd at times, but at least it's not consistently jerky. They even program those camera movements in when doing the CGI work. We just finished the 2nd to last season that just came out on DVD a few weeks back, and will have to wait until the last season comes out on DVD before we can see it. No cable TV in our home.
On Netflix's movie streaming service, we started watching Jericho, which we are enjoying. The cast is good, the sets aren't cheesy, the plot works well, and the drama isn't too over the top. We're just about to finish season 1.
We also recently watched "The Thirteenth Floor" for the 3rd or 4th time, and still found it to be entertaining. The film is basically about virtual worlds.

Yeah Planet Earth is one hell of an experience especially on Blu Ray. I saw this thread and just had to mention Tropic Thunder, which i watched the other day. Got to say i havent laughed like that since Woody allens Sleeper when i was a kid. Robert downey Jnr plays a blinder as the african american sergeant. His little chat with stiller about going full retard is pure comedy gold.
