Newwww track - another style change?
Created on: 02/16/09 03:48 PM Replies: 7

Oh, yes, right. Hello. Popping by to share some music and have my monthly peep through the threads and listen to some lovely tunes from 'round these parts. Smile Don't get much time online at the mo, but hey.

Recently my computer went kaput. It was around this time I was listening to a few recently unveiled new tracks by The Future Sound of London, and reading a lovely book called 'The Ambient Century' by Mark Prendergast (HIGHLY recommended), which got me very inspired to make some more music. I'd been working on an album called Dead Hymns for what seems like forever now (it began in 2005), but slowly grew bored and eventually sick of it - for what it's worth, it's a very dark industrial concept album about hell with lots of distortion and creepy synths and loud guitars. Not where I want to be right now.

So Second Thought album 3 mk ii begins. Now I have a new computer, I've begun composing, producing and generally working on some musical stuff quite a lot. And so I bring you the first track from the next record. It's called Savernake (named after a place in Wiltshire), and is somewhat different to my previous work. Other than the two versions of Rooftops which made it onto Vacuum Road Songs, neither of which were brilliantly produced, I've not bothered with techno.
Until now.
Anyway, here it is. Savernake:

I'm really happy with it myself. I hope you all like it too. Smile

Hi there,

Nice track actually - kind of old school in a sort of orb way.

Really like it. My amp has blown so I am just listening to it on my smaller speakers so I can't get a good idea on the bass end - but all the higher sounds are delicious. It has got that Future Sound of London vibe too.

Good work - its ages since I heard any Second Thought and this is a lovely addition. Like the dogs....random!>!>! whats that about?

DL-ing....damn, I haven't been able to stream songs on AS the last couple of days....my connection is soooo slowwwwwwwwwww......

I dunno, sounded good at the time. Sort of vaguely fits into a picture that'll make more sense once the album's done eventually, I think.

Cheers, though - bottom end isn't as present as the top end, but this definitely isn't dance music so it works. Glad you like it. Smile

Does remind me a bit of the Orb, this sounds different from you Ross, I dig it, less glitchy than some of your stuff. I really like that opening arpeggio. I could have used the high hat and other percussive elements a little further back in the mix, with a tad of like room ambience, but thats just me I think. I like all the other atmospheres that come in as well, nice job!
