File this one under... FREAKY!!

Not sure what sort of catagory you would put this in, or whether if it' even worth noting, but last night something happened that has me all freaked out this morning.
As some of you may or may not know, I work in another town about 50kms away. I work 11:00pm to 7:00am which means I'm on the road by 10:00pm. Last night I had to stop and gas up the car (78 cents/litre.. not bad) before leaving town and when I was about to pull out of the gas station I had to wait for a transport to go past. I pull out and catch up to the truck a few kms down the road, but think "aw, man... I don't want to be stuck behind this guy all the way to Shakespeare" (the next town on the the way) so I pull out and pass him. No other cars on the road, I have a clear road ahead of me. The truck is nothing but history now, nothin' but head-lights in my rear-view mirror. I pass Hahn farm equipment and I notice there's this car off to the side of the road, stopped cross ways, blocking the entrance to Hahn's. This guy shuts off his headlights and is getting out as I pass. I think.. hmm... car trouble? Oh, well.. on I go. I'm now up the road a little further, truck lights in my rear view, when there's this really bright flash of white light reflected in the mirror. I mean it really caught my attention as something like that is not normal. It was like a camera flash went off in the car. I look at the clock in the dash and it says 10:15pm. I glance back up at the mirror and that's when I realise the truck lights are not there anymore. Gone they were. Just darkness behind me. Then another bright flash and all around me is complete darkness. And not just because it was night time. The Mack truck shop was in darkness as I passed by it (and it's always lit up brightly), town of Shakespeare was in darkness as I drove through, and all the way across North-Easthope township every farm, home, the village of Amulree, etc., was dark. Kinda creepy actually.
Fast forward to this morning.
Leanne calls me at work to tell me not to take highway 7 home as it's closed because of a major accident that happened last night between Stratford and Shakespeare. Truck had lost control, taken down the power lines, spilled the contents of the trailer all over the road and knocked out power to the township. The highway is closed and had been all night and will remain so until later today. She says I'll hafta take another route into town when I come home.

I tell her what happend and she gets all freaked out. I'm freaked out too now thinking that had I not passed that truck I might have been caught up in all that mess, involved directly or at the least stuck behind it all.

No word on the news on whether anyone was hurt in that mess, but man.... it's freaky.
Is it just blind luck that I passed that guy and therefore missed out on that scene, or is there some higher power at work here?

Of course it could also mean didly squat and I'm just freaked out for no reason at all... but.... jeese how can I not think there's some strange, unexplainable, force at work here?
Oh, well... that's my excitement for the day.
So... how's your day goin'?

Wow! That gave me goose-bumps! I don't know about devine intervention, but I do beleive certain things happen for a reason. I'm just glad you are safe! And think about the cool story you have to tell now... Sounds like an episode of X-Files.
Meanwhile, my day is (so far) quite uneventful.

Looks like the roads open again. According to the local radio station:
http://www.cjcsradio.com/news/index.php
Must have involved the car I saw on my way past Hahn's that they say got into it with the truck.
Looks to me like God has other plans for me. I've had several close calls during my lifetime. Guess my work here on this mortal coil isn't done yet.

Sure sounds like it. Amazing story and well described. I just knew there was something about that truck? For a minute i thought the strong light you saw was gonna lead us into a story about a UFO spotting.
I would say, and i don´t want to take the drama out of what you just experienced, that life moves on, time is an ongoing process and the longer we´re alive the more likely it is that we will experience our closeness to death. It´s everywhere, remember the film by Monty Pythons "The meaning of life" where the person suppose to be taken out by the grim reaper would have it, can´t remember the details but it was hilarious as death had hell to try to get this guy.
Quite a few times recently my girlfriend has just passed severe accidents and thought, that could have been me? Instincts play an enormous role in our survival and it sounds like you had good instincts but all the same, scary shit and a normal reaction is what you seem to be going through. Aftermath of a shock caused by any type of catastrophe, accident, or life chrisis can trigger these reactions in us and we struggle to take in the reality or deal with the emotions involved. Sometimes they can be life changing.
So, glad to hear you are o.k. I travel quite a lot between 2 countries, albeit close to one another (Sweden-Norway) and i often (more than is healthy?) that something will happen. Statistically it should?
Not long ago i was travelling on a train to Sweden (really modern train btw) and i´m not sure exactly where we were because it was totally pitch black outside, but we´d passed the border and i was thinking about all the rainfall during the last 1-2 months. All of a sudden the train starts shaking like mad, really, from side to side for miles it seemed like? All the passengers in our cabin started to look at each other and wonder what the hell was going on? One guy got up and started to look like he was gonna pull the emergency brake.
Anyway....nothing happened, thank god! The train started to act normally, after what seemed like an eternity. Probably a week or two after, not sure exactly as i didn´t check at the time, a massive piece of a motorway, about 200 m in length just falls apart, it just sinks into the countryside, they reckon due to extreme rainfall but other experts say it´s due to bad planning and neglegence of warning from some geologists, obviously caused by time factors and budget.
Not a very good story compared to yours but when hearing the news i was sure it was near where i was on the train but after checking it wasn´t but the local train had nearly plunged in to the muddy depths of subsided earth. The only reason it stopped and no people were hurt was because the traffic lights turned red because of the electricity got cut off!!! Can you imagine the people on that train?? Close call.
