Ah.... a couple David Mills tracks.

Opinions appreciated. Both short and simple but I don't ever stuff a track. I liked working with the drum tracks in Cubase trying to get a pretty realistic feel. Guitar is still tough to record for me. Solo in Swim was a one take with no monitoring and I was liking that luck.

Just learned that the Maximizer and the Limiter should to go in slots 7 and 8 in Cubase. Maybe you know what I mean.

Reliever has been up a week or so but I remixed it. Mixing tracks in headphones, you don't get a good idea how much boomy bass there really is.
I really like the bass and stereo melody line that goes through the track.

Swim:

This sounded more like a mix of lounge and rock than acid jazz. I really like your guitar playing, very natural and sweet sounding. This song seem to split into two different pieces at 1:37, but I enjoyed the orc stuff too. The mix sounds like it could be a bit brighter. Overall this seemed like a rough sketch of ideas that could be refined into something more.

Reliever:

The beats are cool but lack depth. The guitar work is good, reminds me of something from an action movie. I like some of the synth sounds and melodies but like 'Swim' it sounds like a WIP more than a finished piece.

I appreciate the critique. WIP is something I always think about. Once I get to a point where I can't think of something to add without muddling the mix I end it. I work with headphones only so tracks seem much fuller and complete to me that way if that makes sense. I end paying much more attention to sonic details. Minimal seems like more. I would really like to have vocals. Portishead, Massive Attack style.

Swim had some nice ideas, but wasn't my kind of thing. Reliever had some great moments, though, the overall melodic content was excellent, built to a good climax and was very engaging. Enjoyable track!
