My new tune for today.

Made this last night and this morning. It's funny how quickly an idea can form in such a short time when it pulls itself together like this one did.

as always, interesting timbres, intelligent & tastful arrangement and excellently recorded, but what I really like about this piece (other than the overall percussion and those sliding tones) is the playfulness of the piece. the 'game like' tones almost drive me nuts, but it works in the overall character of the piece (really glad you break it up with the changes and open spaces). you've kinda got this irrepressable happy thing going
(you ever listen to any ancient Kit Watkins like Frames of Mind or In Time?)

The game sound did initially drive me nuts. However, I have used the musicbox with stripped gears approach in my own stuff, so I really couldn't find fault with it especially when it gelled with other sounds latter on.
MC is right, it is the playfulness in your approach that keeps this piece enjoyable.
I thought the mix was going to be in mono.

edit: wow, originally I typed something very similar to what Michael said, about your happy nature manifesting itself in your music...
As has been said above, the 8bitty squirts in the beginning were a little rough for me, but then you go and make 'em sound natural by adding some good context.
Again, as with your last piece, I enjoy how you put on the brakes here and there throughout the tune. Space and dynamics. Nice one

So you guys r saying I should change my name to "DJ Hop-Skip"?
I know I'm getting there. Yeah you know the game sounds are all I seem to find for some subcortical reason to be 'the closest' to what I'm trying to do. 'cute' is sometimes over-rated & over done etc, but my main goal in this one was to match the melody with the percussive fills. So it worked in that sense, I'm glad you guys noticed the fluidity again.
I like sticcato, what can I say. In this piece I think I was trying too hard to emphasize the percussion... (like I usually do) Thank you Michael for the intelligent comment, because that's more what I was aiming for I guess; I think it's a nitch of mine to assume the person that's listening wants to learn a few tricks... hehe. Actually that's probably a bad case of 3 years of drum & bugle corps. eh...
Kit watkins... Frame of Mind & In time... nope. why?
btw, thank you guys.
Also, P9fm, I sent you a PM about the bpm of lucy; wondering if you could help me out about switching bpm to tempo because I don't think Reason shows bpm units...

Neat track. Short and to the point.....

I know over the years Kit has done some new agey work to the extent that many have forgotten his early stuff... which was tight, intellingent instrumental pop music with an emphasis on interesting rhythm. it also tended towards an optimistic feel (one of his band incarnations was called Happy the Man).
anyway, just thought you might dig his stuff

Seems to me like the percussion is too "conventional". What if you built that out of 80's video game blips as well? Still a cute track though. I love the way you suddenly ended it.

I agree with you on that'n Fourier, I did use kind of a 'play and ditch' thing for the percussion I was using toward the start. That was mainly because I slapped it together; I should've spent more time on it- but oh well. I at least got the drumline sound off a Dr. Rex patch, which is amazingly just a chemical drum set...
I hope I can find game glitch stuff- that's usually the problem with Reason for me, it has sound patches like you heard on this, but the extent of the monosynths expand from 'screech' to 'wawahwah' to 'wooloolooloo'. etc.
There's still a lot I know I need to learn about that program, but I've been using it for about two years now, and I'm frustrated that I can't get the sounds I want out of it.
I need to learn how to create sound patches I guess.

Hey talking of vintage gamey sounds, you know Alcrani, right?

If not, try "Porforth".

Yeah, I used to listen to Alcrani a lot back when. He must've rubbed off on me a bit.
