Hi all...

How's everyone!?!
Well... it's Earth Day again. My 31st (I'll let you do the math on when my first was)
Yup....

I really should be out getting the yard cleaned up, but man I just don't have the energy right now. I'm poop'd and it's only Tuesday.

And it's an incredibly awesome day too. Weather is perfect for this time of year. It's 16 and sunny. Dead calm. Absolutely awesome. Warm enough to have the kitchen window open. And as you can see...
Just catchin' some rays...
I'm not the only one who's lovin' the weather. I think I'll take Bluey's lead and just sit in the sun a while.

That window btw will be a popular spot for the next six months. It's the only time of the year sunlight comes through that window (at least 'til noon). Perfect roost for a kitty.

>>How's everyone!?!
We're doing well We were 2 days early on our Earth Day celebration. We built and setup a 'square foot garden' in the lower part of our yard. It's a gardening method where you build a 4'x4' box w/ 2"x6" boards, and placing usually 1 plant per square foot. Since our yard has a slope, we added a plywood bottom and drilled some drainage holes for it.
A key to the 'method' is to use a mix of compost, vermiculite, and peat moss. The soil was amazing once we mixed it up - you could see how the roots were going to love it.

Well - if our zero point phase modulation teleport wasn't broken, we'd beam over and give you a hand

ah nice. I love how cats chill out
>> and just sit in the sun a while.
it's quite easy to forget how awesome it can be to sit still and feel the sun.
I'm sure Lou will snap some photos of our new garden - we'll post them soon.
Happy Earth Day everyone - enjoy the planet and all that it provides.

Hope everyone had a green, glorious Earth Day!
We have done so much work to our yard this year: planted at least six trees, put in a new container pond, and have planted countless flower seeds, still, it was wonderful putting in a garden on E.D.! And the best part? We were just one of many friends and family who did the same thing that day. I guess we are all really hooked on the 'Square Foot Garden' idea. So far so good...none of the babies have suffered any shock at being transplanted. I'm most hopeful for our eight different varieties of heirloom tomatoes. Yum! I will certainly take pictures...I know I have been promising some for awhile now, sorry!
Stay happy, keep growing, and remember: reduce-reuse-recycle!

I'm back....
I'm curious about these boxes you've put together. Sounds like a good project for the boys. And Liam wants to grow some sunflowers so.....
Any ideas out there?
I gotta a nice sunny (dawn 'til noon) spot along the east wall of the house. About 15 feet long and 1 foot wide.

It IS a wonderful project for kids!
Go to www.squarefootgardening.com and check it out. My parents bought all of us the book because they have been doing above-ground 'French Intensive' gardening for years. The system really works and it's easy and it makes sense.

Thanks for the link P9, I've added a link to the site to my forums.
I didn't do much for Earth Day... I didn't even know it was Earth Day until I heard about it at work. I would have worn my Earth Day t-shirt if I had known.

I helped plant some of the roof of this building back when I was in high school 73-74.
