Down at the Dog Pound

I just got back from another trip to our local animal shelter. I was dropping off some toys and hangin' with the pooches. I noticed that this was the first time I have been able to go and not cry. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
There were such AMAZING pups (and cats) waiting and hoping to be adopted. And even though we are in no position to adopt another dog, I promised them that I would get the word out there....ADOPT A PET!
If you, too, are not able to give a pet a home at this time, at least consider donating your time, towels or toys. Any shelter will glady receive used towels, blankets and toys, provided they are clean. And not only are you giving a little comfort to a scared and lonely animal, it's also tax deductable!
Today the pets and finger chews were much needed and well received. I highly recommend it...and so do they.

Glad you're getting better about not crying there Lou. Those pups really need a level head watching out for them, especially at their most difficult time. Thank you for going there.
Here's a recent shot of my kids:

I agree with what you're saying about the pups needing a safe/solid precence during this time. I used to feel so bad everytime I cried, thinking "Oh God, they are totally picking up on how upset I am right now and they probably are, too." And I figure that's not helping things much. This last time I was able to stay very "up" while visiting everyone. It's so damn hard!!!! You know I want to adopt them all and move to a huge property in Oregon with yurts....yeah...it's a dream.
Thanks for including the pic of your family. I love the one we have on the fridge! We have a box of goodies we've been meaning to send out to all six of you, but you know how it goes: work-work-work. One day it will arrive on your doorstep and you will be shocked! And quite honestly, so will I.
Give them all kisses from me!

Any dog is a good dog with the right attention. I haven't met one canine that didn't show altruism at the start of their lives. I used to feed a wolf reservation for a neighbor when I was 12- I loved running around the pin with them; they were amazing animals. The intelligence they project to a human is completely relevant in respect to eye contact and body language. They knew how to contrast and compare my body compared to theirs... I might sound a little weird when I say this at first but the wolves knew how to stop me from running by grabbing my ankles right behind my achilles heel!
But they never bit hard enough to hurt and they knew that I was a playmate. I see this in most dogs too, that's why I emphasize with Lou. We see an equal being being "put down" because there's no one around- hands down.
I could never be a vet ever. I'd be broke for having 50 something mutts tearing up the place.
It'd be so much fun though.
(I already am broke, but in debt would be kinda shitty too)
Cute kids Subs!!

Sorry I didn't catch this sooner, Kylo. That is so cool that you used to work and play with wolves. I've never had the opportunity to do anything like that. I have lived around a lot of wild animals, but have never had the chance to work with them in close conditions. I hear they are marvelous creatures with an incredible social sense.
