it's very cold outside.
what you are hearing are actual recordings of our local skein as perceived from within tiny ice crystals that form on the crests of the mud craters, left behind by yesterday's cows.

sounds better than a murder of crows
I like the part toward the end where the nice sweet tinkly sounds start to reveal themselves only to pushed back into the deep freeze.
You realize that if you played this through an outdoor PA - Geese would never land near it

I've got a recording of the electromagnetic emanations from the lateral lines of my cichlids that sounds a lot like this. amazing. your cow tracks seem to have more inherent melodic content however. actually, I did some tracks with geese years ago before the coyotes got 'em.
anyway, good abstract ambience. seems like high end often gets neglected - but it works here. at least I liked it.

hehe, we used to have a bunch of ducks too... Til' those damned cyotes grabbed em; they pushed themselves right through a weak spot in the chain-link fence to get to them. Coulda been a skunk too. But Gooseland sounds like geese communicating back & forth in a way, if you've ever listened. Maybe it's a duck thing- always constantly jabbering back & forth when they see something that affects them.
Or a skein thing.

Ah, excellent. Now I understand.

Actually this is kinda neat. Great ambience.
My kitty CoCo (female siamese) was quite taken by the sounds. She came into the studio while the tune was playing and sat right in front of the right speaker and kept tilting her head to the sounds like as if it were a message just for her.

Interesting, did you use Kyma for this, it reminds me of some of the signal resynthesis that you can do with that. Ludo mentioned in another post you use Max/Msp. Sounds pretty cool, was the source material Goose noises? Interesting.

I used Reaktor for this (I use that app for at least 98% of my music) and there are no goose noises or samples of any kind, it's all synthesis. I left that reply as a mildly wise-ass remark in an effort to get people's imaginations running, hoping that would open up the receptors a bit ;)
there are two main machines creating the program - one is a fantastic mess of self oscillating, feedingback fm synthesis with various things generating pitch/ring/delay modulations and the second one is listening to that and performing an array of granular resynthesis, the parameters for which I'd created some abstract table sequencers that are not really synced hard to themselves, or the rest of the piece. the two machines have some false relationships that I forced upon them by setting up a couple of broad controls with fairly random ranges but set to a very fine resolution so I can sweep the ensemble's mind in a somewhat respectful manner. the identifyable synth that comes in is a beautiful machine built by Ernest Meyer, which I've ripped through with a coarse blade and no goggles.
it was recorded as is and there are no edits.
thanks for listening

no geese? no ice? no cows? no skein? awwww...
well I must admit all I got with the cichlid was a garbled version of Hello My Ragtime Gal - and later I discovered that in fact it was just the pleco throwing it's voice.
regardless how you did it, I'm looking forward to hearing the larger work
