New tune, based on the Lucy scale. The lushness got the best of me. All done in Metasynth.

ah where's Harrington.. he's the scale man.
heh this bass + beat only breakdown is awesome. i am enjoying all those sounds.. excellent synth stuff and some kind of oriental trumpet now this could be longer..! with some "selling out/commercial" soothing chord changes..
(but i like it as it is right now)

Really nice. Sort of like what Orb should sound like today if they were still good
You could easily repeat every section twice more or less and have a tune (get this) twice as long.
Did you realize that?!
Damn, I swear I've heard that trumpet before. It's all so damn floaty. Damn you
What exactly is the lucy scale? Is it a set of notes or are they specific tunings? Come to think of it, what's Metasynth?

Oh yeah, the image/sound converter, only it seems to have had some kind of make-over

Thanks for the listen to both of you.
This thing about making songs longer - I dunno , I look it as a 3 minute song is like 6 30 second commercials.
Here's a link for info one the Lucy scale http://www.harmonics.com/lucy/index.html
If you dig there are sound samples that compare popular songs. I will be doing some pieces in this tuning.
Here's a Metasynth link for those who don't know what it is http://uisoftware.com/MetaSynth/

Ok, that scale owns. I want it! When it's used properly and not just a mechanical mapping of 24tet onto a choice of values, it sounds pretty much like our beloved 24tet but somehow improved. That's the only way I can describe it. Especially certain chord sequences seem kinda the same as 'normal' but almost like they've been run through an effect that you can't put your finger on. Is a scale an effect? It can certainly create one.
And I'm sure I've heard this scale before, sparsely in film soundtracks and the odd section in a piece of music. I want it! Pity many softsynths don't even offer decent tuning options at all (absynth comes to mind as being good with tonality but it's a bit of a CPU monster).

Yes, I know about this scale too- Hey! I love your pads!! Great job getting that "superb reverb!"
This made me daydream so good... Good work! I liked your percussion progression even though simple. I also like it when I can be reminded that simple things can sound good too.

Listening now...
definitely some cool pads (which automatically merits a from me) SWEET reverse fx. They help these transitions a ton... Kudos on your effects usage -- that, along with your "Lucy" scale melodies, creates a nice affinity in the tune.
At first I didnt like your trumpet + delay + reverb, but as the song wrapped up, I decided that I DID like it. I was able to get over the mediocre sample once I realized how cool it actually sounded with all those effects.........

Kylo - thanks for picking up on the keep it simple approach and I am glad the song let you float off.
I may have to enter some sort of reverb / delay 12-step program, but I was going for lush, so out come the church size reverbs.
t e r m i n a t u s - thanks for your comments, actually one of my favorite parts of the song is the return of the trumpet at the end. I was planning on shortening the trumpet line, but I got lazy.

this song gets stuck in my head. I found myself humming it yesterday after my first listen. this is pretty electro compared to your recent batch, especially the crunchy percussion that comes in halfway through the tune (I really like that). I don't understand the trumpet so much, but that's okay.
nice little piece. thanks for sharing!

I followed a couple of those links mentioned early in an attempt to learn what the Lucy Scale was but I couldn't quite understand it.

Doof - Thanks, I imagine getting a song stuck in your head is not an easy thing to do. I was in a spagetti western mood when I added the trumpet.
Brill - look at the posts above there is a Lucy Scale link
Term - Yeah I agree, I don't have a clue about the theory behind the scale, but I am pretty happy with this first experiment.
Most likely, this weekend I will start on a new track using the same scale, most likely called "Bad Lucy"or "Don't eat the brown Lucy" which will be much nastier

Ehh, it's something to do with using fractions of pi to generate a cycle of fourths and fifths which has something to do with the limitless extension of pi and continually generates extra degrees of sharpness and flatness such that any concievable microtonal scale can be produced, as well as a version of the traditional 12tET scale which has a richer sonority.
Ok, I admit, I don't have a fucking clue. But it sure as hell sounds interesting

Yeah, agreed
It was bloody complicated and extremly detailed, a lot of info about how the measurements of building a guitar for an open E & G chord at the same time? Intonation and a keyboard with 47 keys for the scale. And then there was the circle of chords from Ab in 5th steps moving on to 13 different chord positisions. And after all this i don´t get where the name Lucy scale comes from??
I checked your track and it was pretty different, interesting sounds for sure, did it include the different scales, intervals or what is the deal? Please explain, coz i don´t quite get it? Sorry.

Brill - I truely went into this blind. I heard about the Lucy scale by way of a posting on a Metasynth discussion list. In Metasynth you can load custom scales, which set the frequencies of the notes. So I loaded one of the Lucy scales available and started playing.
I never did any comparions of what my piece would sound like if I used standard tuning.
I think Send has a better handle on this than the rest of us or at least his ears are sensitive to the differences. Me - I am tone deaf

Interesting - the trumpet things are my favourite with cool "answer phrases".
Good tune - might look into the Lucy scale myself. When you say Lucy, do you mean Lucian?
