Spectral - Indie Electronic Mix - ElectronicScene
Created on: 12/05/12 03:12 PM Replies: 12

Hey Listen up!

Please enjoy this eclectic mix of indie electronic music featuring artists I met more than 10 years ago on the Web.

These artists and their music motivated me to build an indie music site that continues to run today - originally ElectronicScene.com and now ArtistServer.com.

This hour long 'DJ' mix was produced in Sony Acid and mastered with Ozone.

While trying to find an image on my PC to use as a cover, I found this old collage where several artists who used to be regulars here each added themselves to the image. Bonus points to anyone who can name everyone in the photo!

Listening....

Haven't seen that pic for a long time. Is there a larger version? My 50 year ol' eyes aren't as good as they used to be. I know I see myself, Johnny, Stefan, you, Lou, Themis... can't make out the rest.

The pic of me is from a set I did at C'est What? (Toronto) in June of 2003.

I still have those stickers all over my car. Great mix Gid! The decade was full of it! I heard this last week and I still listen to a lot of these on a huge playlist I have saved on an external hard drive called "Shit from before time". Smile

How are you man?

Any new music to share?

Between work, and being a dad now, my music time is quite limited. I'm producing 1-2 tracks per year now. Fortunately, I do get time on my acoustic guitar, and play bass down at the beach occasionally in an improvisation jam band. Right now, I have 3-4 songs in the works, but I'm sure it will take a few months to finish. If I sit here at the PC, I usually select to work on the new version of Artistserver instead of my own music. I'm rebuilding the site and not retaining any of the old code - it will be a 100% recoding and new layouts, etc.

I hope life is treating you well Smile

Take care,
Gideon

Congrats on being a dad - Its the Legendary Daddy K now also Smile

We are just approaching my son George's 1st birthday. Its the best thing in the world. I've been doing a lot of orchestral music which is on my website here: jackpickett.com though on the TLDK side of things I did a remix for the herbaliser earlier this year which is on my Soundcloud page. I also did a DJ Shadow remix though it wasn't official - it was the ones he posted samples on. As with everyone I don't have the time (or maybe the zeal) I once had but recently George and Lizzie went to stay with her folks for a few weeks and I came across an old box of demo tapes. I have digitally transferred them, remastered them a bit and will be releasing them soon. It was lovely to hear that mix you did. I'm planning to work on one myself in the same vein. Anyone that succumbed to the digital domesday book can keep up to date with TLDK stuff via that modern method.

I do iPad development now too and I still make websites in collusion with my lovely girlfriend Lizzie who does all the graphic design - thats kind of the bread and butter. I released a game called Big Fish Little Fish which in truth kind of panned but its been helpful in getting other work in this field.

I hope you and yours are well. Are you still in SF?

Wow happy memories!

Yes I too am down to about 1-2 tracks per year these days. Maybe even just 1. Funny how real life takes over as you hit 35, 40, 45 years old I don't know

Hope all the old crowd are well these days!

Hey I've taken up iPad programming too! Seems to be kind of the same as electronic music - 10 million struggling, broke app developers trying to make themselves heard music...

Here's my attempt:

great mix Gideon, this is fun to listen to. I miss a lot of that break era kinda beats that are on here. Haven't stopped by AS for a while, fond memories!

Giving this a spin now, sounds really good and takes me back also, memories of being that bit younger, that bit more naive, and seemingly a lot more time!
I am also a father now, over 40, and a music producer perhaps once or twice a year, my output these days more sound design dj mixes in Audiomulch, or sketches.
Good to see people getting into other things like Ipad's and the like, I myself will probably join your ilk soon enough Smile Now that fortune has decided to make me unemployed again. Still, wtf, its high time I did something I enjoyed more anyway Smile
Nice to see some old faces here.

Sad Crying or Very sad

Pete are you unemployed in Germany, or back in Blighty these days?

Hey Glenn!,
I am unemployed in Germany Smile Which is interesting! I can speak a little German now, by no means fluent, but enough to survive decently. We like it here, so if we can work out a way to stay, then we will Smile
I got so many ideas buzzing through my head at the moment its crazy! I'd love to develop something on a Tablet as well, some kind of story adventure, that would be cool, but its pretty tough! How's your College Football project going? Well I hope!
And, it would be nice to hear some of your latest music dabblings Smile
