Looks pretty bad... Rolling EyesSad

we are inland just a bit - located near San Diego State University - off of HWY 8. La Jolla is a 15min drive from here - out to the coast.

No problems here... coffee is good, dogs are playing, birds chipping Smile Cool, right on.

lou should be fine too - she's even further inland.

thanks for asking - Very Happy

Yeah... saw that on CNN before I left for work last night.

Woah WTF!?

Everyone is fine and they are letting folks back into their houses today. The quotes they have been playing on the radio are pretty funny. One lady said "I went to my Bridge Club a millionaire and came home to nothing!" and another woman is getting air-time for saying "I have nothing...NOTHING to wear!" Considering that this happened in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in San Diego, thier sob stories aren't generating too many tears. I do find it very sad that even though they all have home insurance, most of the damage will not be covered. So you pay and pay and pay, year after year, and then a giant hole appears in front of your house, sucks your shit in, and the companies look at you and say "Sucks to be you." No...that just doesn't cut it. Confused

Thanks for the concern, Brillman. Smokin'!

Ah, yes... the ol' "act of god" clause. That lame excuse is just way too convenient. I hate the way the insurance adjusters always find a way to blame some mysterious, invisible man that lives in the sky for destroying your hard earned posessions. And of course if it's the city that's at fault then good luck collecting on that one as well.

To you guys who live in that area--
How common are things like this?? And earthquakes?

Come to think of it, anybody live in a place where there are (relatively) frequent "disasters"?

I come from the NE, and the worst thing that ever happens there is a lot of snow / ice... which actually can be pretty bad, given the fact that the landscape is so hilly. But! You can pretty much guarantee that you'll be okay if you just stay put in your house for the afternoon / night, and don't drive.

Just recently moved to the midwest, and apparently there are these things called "tornadoes" out here. And thems bad boys can do some damage. Haven't seen one yet (in a year and a half), and I'm frankly not all that keen to. The rainstorms here sure rock though!!

Rah!!

I'm a native San Diegan and I can vouch for this town usually being pretty tempermental. We have some heat waves, some wet winters, an occasional snow storm in the mountains and the odd earthquake, but that's about it. We go through phases when we have more earthquakes than usual, like three in one Summer. We've also had some terrible droughts. But I really can't complain. That's probably why so many people move here.

I wonder what the next few years will bring to this area. Global warming... zoned out

Weather is a much discussed topic in these parts, but the reality of it is not much happens. Occasional snowstorm during winter that can shut things down for a couple days. The usual rain type stuff the rest of the year. Every now and then the wind blows a few trees down.

It's frickin' cold right now, though. I know it's gonna get a whole lot colder, but right now it's 4C outside and about 10 degrees warmer inside as I write this.

It was cold standing in the cemetary earlier today for my Uncle's funeral.

Other than that we pretty much enjoy peace and tranquility round here.

I read an amazing article in San Diego Union Tribune this weekend about the landslide. Turns out there was a paper-trail a mile long showing the city and utility companies were well aware of the possibility of a landslide in that neighborhood.

Hmmmmmmmmm..... hmmm... huh?
