Hi everyone,

First up: !!Merry Christmas!! Have a great winter holidays...

Second up: I have composed a 4-movement piece called Reflections for 2 pianos, Sting Sextet and Vibraphone. (!!) This year I have done a lot of chamber music for various projects I have been asked to work on - this however is a 4 movement piece that I have been working on the last week or 2 under my own volition so I thought I would post it up to share over the festive period. Enjoy. Smile - you can either stream each track or download the zip file which includes all 4 in mp3 format.

Reflections Part 1
I think I said already that this has strong suggestions of "Donnie Darko", doesn't sound like the music from that film...it just reminds me of it! Definatly a moody, and indeed a reflective piece...not happy reflections though perhaps...something bad happened here...

Reflections Part 2
Cool, like the way this progresses, this one feels more sad, the theme seems to have progressed to emotions more than actions...Nice chords...sorry I got to say this...its got a bit of the James Newton Howard about it...the melodies have a childlike quality, its that music box style melody that gets the big treatment, if you know what I mean.

Reflections Part 3
This one is going somewhere else, starts off sad, continues the existing theme but kind of morphs it into a lighter key, something more hopeful, it seems perhaps it isn't all badSmile I like the progression in this one, the change works nicely...The arpeggio style piano sequence is cool, but it is in all of them...I like this one the most so far because of the happier progression change.

Reflections Part 4
I have to say each of these tunes, whilst being related, do surprise me, in that what I thought would happen, didn't...this one goes slightly melancholic again, but only that it seems happy memories seem to be lost...don't know what to make of the ascending piano, seems to be illustrating a story element...but I'd need to know the story to appreciate it more Wink

Overall an interesting and enjoyable listen, I do like my soundtracks and this would work in a movie. Very nice music, makes me want to compose music rather than assemble sounds
Smile

Cheers,
Pete

I have no problem being compared to him!! This one seems to be peoples favourite so far.

I think the nature of reflections are melancholic and if the piece is to be taken as a whole then this is the point where things we regret take on a positive aspect as things we can learn from - or rather just accept.

There isn't really a story as such - it is really about the nature of reflective thought. My girlfriend was worried when I wrote this last part as she thought she heard great pain in it - but I don't think so - its more about the emotional release, crying for example - and the space this can bring for something new.

More and more this is the type of music I have become interested in writing - and I would be very interested in hearing what you came up with in this vein. It is stlll just assembling sounds however. Thanks for listening Pete.
