I am a River
It turns out - I am a river! (and you are my daydream).
In a sad turn of events, someone let me near a microphone again (I seem to be getting an unhealthy taste for it!), so I thought I would inflict it upon you lot and see what the response is.
Hope you are all well!

Seriously.... I do like it. I'm usually pretty picky when it comes to vocals, but in this case it works.
Step up to the mic any time you wish!!

DK -
your voice is sweet. the main vox, are those pitch processed in any way, or is that your singing voice? I know there's a pitch shift later on in the harmony. the vocals really do have a feminine quality about them, and it sounds very mysterious - which is a very good thing, in my opinion.
the only real criticism I've got here has to do witih the snare flams that repeat throughout. they sound stiff to me, and I think that if you could get them to swing (or is it shuffle?), it would really bring this tune up nicely. even better, if you got 'em swinging and then once in a while (for accent) reverted back to the stiff flam for a one shot, that would really add something interesting to the tune.
nice work.

I agree with Doof...the voice works in my opinion. I like the track, although I must say it sounds kinda harsh in the higher regions....

Well then, if you are as picky as you say you are, I am especially pleased it gets the thumbs up!

Hey Doof, No its just me - I'm not even wearing tight pants. (except the pitch-shifted bv's). I think the reason it is sounding feminine is because I am singing quietly (i'm actually just singing into my laptop mike!). I'll take a look at the snares and get back to you. There are a couple of variations in there but I wonder if they are too subtle for anyone to notice. Thanks for your considered feedback.

Hey BC - thanks for taking a listen. I like the crunch...what can I say. Glad you dig the tune.
I'm planning to release an EP of vocal tracks including the Be Lucy remix I did for Mike, this one, a track called Sunshine that I did in 2005 and another track called Anomolies, which I have wanted to put a vocal on since I recorded it. I don't think Simon Cowell will be wetting his pants but who knows?!?!

The vibes remind me of the vibes in "Summertime" and the beat a little too. Sounds really good though. The beat is really the strong part, really thick sounding. I like this track, its kind of a throw back. Sweet production, it all sounds nice and clear.

Hi Danny -
the cutup of the beat on the snare shuffle does seem to feel like it's off or something - possibly because of where it's being cut - like it doesn't have a 'resolving' feel to it.
the vocals - sound interesting, but for me, the tone isn't comfortable to listen to. I'd be into it if there were only a few places where the vocals came through. Maybe if they were run through a filter and pulled back into the mix more.
musically - a change would be nice. The stripping down to the beat and bass, and the dropping of the beat do create a good change up, but taking your bass and synth lines elsewhere for a few measures would make the tune stronger.

Hey DPG, thanks for taking a listen. I was trying to get a sort of Portishead sound really so I guess it is a bit of a throwback. Which "Summertime" track do you mean? George Gershwin? (!)

Hey Gideon, thanks for taking a listen. It seems like a very long time since I did something you like and I wonder if we are, if not on the same page, even in the same book! I'll keep trying though.

no worries Danny - I know you'll produce more tunes that I'll enjoy. Most tracks with vocals don't score very high with me - I'd much rather hear sounds and instruments.

haha, I had totally meant "Summertime" by Sublime. Whoops, just the vibes and heavy drums combo. Again, nice track.

hmmm - much to think about regarding beat and drums. I find it hard to change things once they are done so it probably stay roughly the same!
I should just mention - this isn't Danny K material as such - I see it as a completely different project that I am trying to come up with names for currently.
