I'm sure different people use the site and the music tracking service for different reasons, but for me, I've found it's a great way to learn what I've been ignoring in my music collection. We have quite a huge digital music collection here at the house, and it is easy to get stuck on a few artists and let the majority of the collection sit on the hard drive and be ignored.
I'm only tracking what I listen to at my PC, but I could set up an account for the living room, where we use a Slim Devices streaming player to access our media server. I joined the site Nov 28th,2004, and since then, I've tracked 35,160 plays. If you visit my profile, you can see what I'm currently listening to, the top artist charts, top songs, etc. This is all done by installing a plugin to WinAmp which sends the artist and song info to Last.fm.

My music collection is in MP3 format on my 8GB Walkman. In the car, at work, thru the stereo at home. I grab 'n go rather than sit 'n stream these days...
