What we do besides music
Created on: 05/03/07 10:41 AM Replies: 24

Obviously we are familiar with each other's musical output but I guess work life and other hobbies tend to be pushed aside on this site sometimes. So what do we do other than make music??

------------------------------

I have a web comic - http://balderdashcomic.blogspot.com/
my non-computer related hobbies include hiking and biking Cool
..and I'm pleased to announce that I just got a job at a video game company. ! they make this game and its sequel among others
band

If you're interested to hear more about my job, I'd be happy to divulge later, when I have time to write more.

you blow shit up? like with explosives? for fun or for strip mining?
well anyway. cool! Cool, right on. unless it's strip mining then not cool! No good

Well...I don't actually make music, but I am a great fan. Cool, right on.
I do have an awesome office day-job where I am a manager and have great freedom and plenty of upward mobility. It's mostly paperwork, but I like it. When I'm not at the office I'm at home cheering my main man. Rah!! The site is a major part of both of our lives. I'm here constantly, checking things out, posting stupid stuff...the usual. If I'm not bothering Gideon or harassing Kylo or complementing Doof then I'm probably in the kitchen cooking or in the yard gardening. Luckily both of our dogs ( Miles and Lola) enjoy spending time with me in the kitchen (for goodies that sometimes drop :winkSmile or the yard (where spontaneous games of 'fetch' seem to errupt). I also love to read, take photos and make jewelry. If I could have my wish it would be to stay home and be a rockin' wife! And then open a B & B for artists so I could feed everyone. Smokin'! I know...it sounds lame...but that's me!
Oh yeah...and I'm still trying to learn to play the bass so that the next time this question circles around I won't have to start my reply with "Well...I don't actually make music, but ... " Laughing

Oh, I have one of them real excitin' jobs where I work all night printing/sorting reports for a finance company. Yipee!

Actually, it's a pretty good job. I really do like it. Easy work, decent pay, good bunch of peeps to work with.

The rest of the time is spent with my family (wife, four kids, three cats) at home or travelling around the province sight seein'. Smile

I also have this (some would say annoying) fixation with weather and politics. Rolling Eyes

Hey... it's a Canadian thing...

Laughing

Oh, and speaking of blowing things up. Here's a viddie of Kylo and his brother:

I am currently a chef for a large hotel up here on the washington coast. The summers get crazy but the winters are nice and slow. In the past I was a union stage hand in austin TX, but I have always been a cook to survive. Playing original music in rock bands doesnt pay Laughing so I always got jobs in local music scene bars, doorman, bar tender, stage manager, cook.

I enjoy my job now, and after settling down a bit I have found I am not to bad at it
Very Happy

Wow! A cook! That is awesome!! Cool, right on. What sort of food do you work with? Any specialties?

Oh, this is about work I guess... Not blowing shit up. Very Happy

I just landed a new doorman job at the Le Colonial in SF.
http://www.lecolonialsf.com/index_flash.html

I've got a nice suit and four different ties! (I hold up four fingers when I say this)
And I get free French Vietnamise Gourmet lunch and dinner!! I get tips for holding cab doors and closing them--

I broke up a fight last saturday night; & I looked all snazzy while I did it. Smile

You've got group one: the angry russians... Group two: drunken idiots that think they need to lift the mini-skirt of a russian gal walking by on the patio.
Cool, right on.

They were all kicked out after I gave'em all a flash of my high-powered multi-led light and booming voice. (With my bigger Peruvian friend nearby)

...And I get free crab cakes... and I get to watch a lot of pretty people walk up stairs... Ummm... what?

so far I like it.
Very Happy

Lagrange, glad you're a chef man. It's good to throw out all that love on an occupation.
Smile

Hey Kylo,

I checked that place out and it looks great! Does the food taste as good as it looks? Razz
Keep up the good work and make us proud! Cool, right on.

And FullSource, I looked at your comics page, too. Neat stuff and the laughs were needed. When you do have some more time please tell us about your job. I think Guitar Hero is cool shit! rocking

I'm a QA Tester for a game that I can't name. If you like Guitar Hero, you'll like this one. Basically I send my work day playing a game over and over, looking for programming and art errors to pop up. Then I figure out how I got that error, try it again to make sure I still get that error and submit it to the programmers. They magically fix stuff when on the ball. The main perc is that I get to bring in and listen to tons of music everyday. Smile

That totally ROCKS! What a fabulous job! Twisted Evil
Right now our local (awesome) radio station 91X has been hosting Guitar Hero play-offs once a week for free concert tickets. It's hillareous listening to them play, mess up, score and win. As far as 'video games' go, I think it's one of the best. Cool, right on.
Just currious, but what's your highest score on G.H.?

I've been working through the city of Eugene, as an after school enrichment class teacher/tutor. I also work @ a coffee shop. Middle School has been crazy, its been kind of like reliving it all over again. The kids are awesome, if not a little testy, but whatever. Sweet jobs peopl!

Hi All;

I run the US highways to the tune of 3600 miles every week.

I work five days a week and am home for two days a week!

As of last Christmas, I have been on the road for forty years and traveled over 3 1/2 million miles, accident free!

I write all my music while on the road!

Hi, sup?

Well I haven't in the past but I will try to now that you mentioned it!

I normally listen to Sirius Blues 74 or Sirius Nascar and Fox News on Sirius

I raced for 22 years and built racers even more years than that so, I kinda have a bent wheel for racing scoop!

What is the call letters for the aforementioned Coast to Coast w/ George Noory show!

Thanks,

Doc

Hey Doc,
What make is your beast? It doesn't look like a Peterbilt, Mack or a Volvo...is it a Freightliner or Kenworth? I'm just curious because I do Interstate permits and authorities for a living. Razz I LOVE the big trucks! I process IRP (apportioned), IFTA, ICC-MC, DOT#...blah, blah...you know what I mean. I got started in the business because I used to process IRP applications for the California DMV. Now I am the manager of an office here in San Diego that specializes in all of that 'junk'. But I love it! I just finished all of my client's 1st quarter IFTA taxes and I have to admit, it's interesting stuff. Wink Almost all of my client's are truckers and I enjoy hearing their stories, helping them out, and getting them out of the scales.
I'm glad to know that not only do you have fun with your music, but that it's something you can work on while you're, um, working! cheers

Hi louwhoz;

She is a Kenworth!

I just got her around the first of the year.

My last truck (the blue freightliner) was wrecked while I was laid up at home recooping from the scooter accident I had around the end of last year!

Sometimes I load up stage gear and do gigs while on my runs. Keeps cost way down being that, I'm already going right thru the town where I set up the gig!

At all times I keep a guitar in the bunkhouse and at times I keep an amp and electric guitar in the bunkhouse.

If I am doing any downtime no matter where I'm at, I can jam between my naps and or call in schedules.

Cool that you are in the truckin' permit industry!

I'm in Diego at times. Maybe I can let you know the next time I am headed that way and we can do lunch! Starbucks at minimum! lol!

Later and be Cool,

Doc

That would be great! But do you think it would be O.K. to invite Gideon, too? Laughing
I think I'm finished teasing him about how "I get to have coffee with Doc Quinn!" Cool

Oh, by all means!

Anyone in the area, come on down, my treat!

Sadly I'm not very good at Guitar Hero. I never get time to play it. There are some people I work with that are amazing at it though.
