Completed first Wintermute Video...
Created on: 09/11/08 11:24 AM Replies: 3

In support of the upcoming Wintermute album: "Pattern Recognition" I have done something I have in the back of my mind to do for quite sometime--make a video.

The phrase "Pattern Recogntion" is both the title of one of William Gibsons latest books and a rapidly emerging science for analyzing data with AI and the likes--to this mix I add a further meaning, musical phrases from a sequencer or the like and recognition of progressions of those sequences (something that happens through out the series).

"Pattern Recognition Iteration 1" (series of songs formally known as liquid morphine) takes song zero of the series (a song that previously unreleased at this point, but posted here as AS soon) which features a few of the "patterns" that are heard as they progress through the series of songs (Iterations 1 - 4) . The video is part proof of concept, part visually bringing the concepts of the album together. The proof of concept part is I didn't realize until the other night that I have had the ability it to "easily" do 3d render animation sequences (a key part of how I have wanted to do videos in the past) with program like DAZ Studio, Poser, and Bryce which I have been using for "still" renders, but never sequences because I thought it was more like "stop-motion" type of work. So The video has several seemly unrelated animations that are a amid various Text screens written in "L33t" (new/netspeak) and other groups of characters with the words "Pattern" and or "Recognition" thrown in as an exercise in you guessed it: Pattern Recognition. There are also lots of transition sequences and effects which are more patterns in their own right(some of the more "jaded" video makers will assume this is amature. The use of these sequences were very much intensional to either add to the "mood" of the song, or to be a part of the overall concept . The overall concept to the video was peek curiosity while making you wonder if you might get all call afterward telling you are going to die in seven days Very Happy Hopefully there is a very strong William Gibson/cyberpunk "vibe" to it overall.

Well pick where you would like to see it (I highly suggest seeing it in "high quality" )
for the best "experience" I would suggest Full screen as well. Also the sound is a bit off, so you may want to up your volume before hand Smile

errrr... late? Ummm... what? seems I wrote the book on it at times Smile
Seriously, thank you very much for the feedback. It was kind of proof of concept, kinda promotion and every time I think about this one I kick my self and say... well it wasn't that hard, do more... and I have story boards in my head for other videos... but at least I didn't get flamed on You Tube yet Laughing "yet..." I did spend a lot of time getting the sequences to line up with the music. Mostly I was just amazed at how little actual work I had to do to create each animation sequence "oh... I thought Daz Studio and Poser were just there to make pretty pictures(stills) you mean it can animate them automatically?..." talk about RTFM
Very Happy

"Give them books and they chew the covers..." Smile

btw not to be weird... "weirder?" but one of my favorite 3rd party plugins that I use in pretty much in all of my FLStudio projects is "LFX-1310" which has not one but 2 presets for Bitcrushing. So I am hard pressed not to think of your project every time I work on music... just an FYI ;)
