Good headphones?

Crying or Very sad

So my beloved Koss R/80 went banoodles tonight. I looked at them, and they simply fell apart. Loved the sound, it was neutral with a slight emphasis on higher bass frequencies, which I after a while felt very comfortable with. RIP. I already own the Sennheiser BD HD series but they're far too upfront on mid-freqenices. I have some older Vivancos which I did Tape with but today they work better as painkillers, they sound like it. crazy

I'm thinking of the Roland RH-300? I like the sound of them, neutrality is most important. No "super-bass-mega-orgasm" headphone thing here. Still not sure because they need time to run in as well. I felt some dimensionality lacking, the brush set on some of Herbie's recordings were almost missing and I got all angstish about that! I need to hear it all when there is surrounding silence, and I mean all.

How about the Beyer Dynamics DT series? The 770 Pro? 990? Any long time experiences with any of these here? Other recommendations?

Thanks --:

I have always been partial to the Sony MDR-7506 or MDR-V6. Both are essentially the same model, but the V6 may be harder to find. The V6 are somewhat more neutral (less pronounced bass), however, I've had both and the difference is minimal. In fact I just searched around and found that it may just be that the 7506 has a gold plug, and is marketed as Pro. One source said that it is the 7506 that is more neutral, the other has more base. One source said they are made in the same factory using the same components. Who knows. The 7506 is $20.00 more. Regardless, they are the same fit and basically the same sound.

I've been a sound engineer professionally and I can tell you that these are probably the most used headphones in any studio or live venue I've been in. The biggest thing for me besides the awesome sound, is the comfort. They just seem to fit, and I've owed 4 pair since somewhere in the early 90's.

I highly recommend these headphones.
Cool, right on. Cool, right on.

Great, thanks ibrow for the info...

Well after a lot of here and there and everywhere I went for the Roland's. But I also got a BD HD set but it's great to have more sets for a mixdown phase, so I'll audition the Sony's you mention at the next pit stop.

I'm pretty disappointed that Koss didn't fix their plastic issue, putting cheap plastic on certain vital areas of the earphone is pretty silly when it breaks this easily... That they're STILL doing it baffles me. Argh! Anger - grrrrrr! Roland's are much better!

I love Beyerdynamic.
