Over the last few days, my connection has been pretty bad with pages timing out, not loading, images not loading, and my provider, Cox, didn't have any issues listed on their network status page. Chat seemed to not have any problems, so I figured there was an issue with my provider's DNS servers.

So, i just set my local router to use the DNS servers from http://www.opendns.com - and not only is everything is working, it is actually faster! oh yeah!

You may want to experiment with it - the service is free.
