Winter??... Ha... bring it on, baby!!
Created on: 11/15/07 08:21 AM Replies: 16

Got my winter tires installed this morning. Yup... me car is now ready for winter.

Very Happy

Good thing too 'cause the weather dude's saying we could get up to 15cm tonight. And this time of the year that means the really wet, slushy stuff that's annoying as f**k to drive in.

Anger - grrrrrr!

So... yeah... winter??... bring it on, baby!!!

I'm glad you're ready to take it like a man now. That's a lot of slush- and every little bit of that will prolly tun to sleet right?

Well.... got too cold for slushy today. Temp went below zero so all the snow we gots froze and made for some slip slidin' away type drivin' conditions this mornin'.

Latest bulletin from Environment Canada (for my locale) says:

Quote:
WINTER WEATHER HAS ARRIVED BRINGING LOCAL HEAVY SNOW THIS MORNING WITH SNOWSQUALLS BECOMING ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE DISTRICTS AS SEEN ON WEATHER RADAR AND WEB CAMERAS. WEATHER RADAR SHOWS THESE HEAVY FLURRIES AND SNOWSQUALLS ORGANIZING INTO TWO PRIMARY BANDS EARLY THIS MORNING WHICH WILL PERSIST THIS AFTERNOON. THE FIRST SNOWSQUALL FROM GEORGIAN BAY IS COMING ASHORE FROM ABOUT MEAFORD EAST TO THE COLLINGWOOD AREA AND EXTENDS INLAND TO JUST WEST OF BARRIE DOWN TO ABOUT ALLISTON. THIS SNOWSQUALL MAY EDGE EASTWARD BACK INTO BARRIE AND POSSIBLY THE MIDLAND AREA THIS AFTERNOON AS THE WINDS BECOME A LITTLE MORE NORTHWESTERLY. A SECOND SNOWSQUALL EXTENDS FROM OVER SOUTHERN LAKE HURON INLAND FROM NEAR GRAND BEND ACROSS EXETER..ST MARYS..THEN TO THE LONDON TO INGERSOLL DISTRICTS. THIS SNOWSQUALL IS CROSSING HIGHWAY 401 FROM LONDON TO WOODSTOCK RESULTING IN LOCALLY HAZARDOUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS TODAY. THIS SNOWSQUALL WILL ALSO REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY BEFORE STARTING TO DRIFT EAST AND WEAKEN THIS AFTERNOON. LOCAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF NEAR 15 CM ARE QUITE POSSIBLE IN THE HEAVIEST SNOWSQUALLS. SOME MELTING OF THE SNOW ON RELATIVELY WARM GROUND MAY REDUCE ACTUAL ACCUMULATIONS A LITTLE. MOTORISTS PLANNING TRAVEL TO THESE REGIONS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DANGEROUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO VERY SLIPPERY SNOW COVERED OR SLUSHY ROADS..BLACK ICE..AND LOCAL NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES IN BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES. ALLOW MUCH EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION AS A RESULT. SNOWSQUALLS WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN TO SCATTERED FLURRIES BY THIS EVENING AS THE WINDS DIMINISH AND THE AIRMASS STABILIZES THANKS TO AN APPROACHING HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE.

winter totally equals No good in my book. being cold, there being ice, little daylight, et cetera. i gotta move me somewhere where it's summer all the time!

maybe the sun. hmmm... huh?

though that'd be summer to the bajillionth power, of course. but i could take it.
rocking out

Reminds me of when I lived up in the mountains here in San Diego. Yes, even here it snows. Razz I lived at 5000 ft elevation and the snow plows rarely made it up my funky little road. That meant all of us crazy mountain folk had to park about 1/2 mile down the road and hike to our vehicles each morning. I remember thinking we looked like something out of a movie...all of us bundled bodies moving out of the clouds and snow in the weak pre-dawn sunlight, nodding to each other and silently cursing under our breath. I only lasted two winters.
Wink

Good luck to you! Cool, right on.

This'll be winter #45 for me. And it ain't gettin' any easier.

Yesterday I had to install a new headlamp in my car (why do those damn things never burn out during the summer??) and with the snow comin' down and a cold north wind whipin' up the back of my jacket it was fun. Rolling Eyes

My fingers damn near froze and it feels oh, so good when your fingers slip and you skin your knuckles in the freezing cold.

Funny how talk of global warming all but ceases up here this time of year...

Ah.....memories. zoned out

I think I could have lasted longer than two winters if my lifestyle up there had not been quite so rustic. No heater. Minimal hot water. Just a little wood burning stove in a 15' x 15' cabin.

I bundle up in Uggs, fleece and a scarf when it dips below 60 here in San Diego. Yeah...my neighbors laugh at me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the snow. I just prefer to be sitting in front of a hot fire or cooking soup in my kitchen while it's falling outside. I don't know if I would ever want to do snow-tires and brave black-ice ever again.

But, for all you sadists out there....enjoy! Rah!!

Snow...

I love playing in it (tobogganing is one of my favorite things to do) but I hate driving in it. Making snowmen is great fun with the kids and having a snowball fight (Leanne's a deadly shot btw) is a great way to keep warm. And of course the hot-chocolate afterwards is the best part.

Man, tonight was cold for me. Temperature in the 30 somethings but I had to stand outside most the night. It's abnormally a dry cold lately around here for some reason! I wake up so dehydrated every morning... Confused

yeah, winter sucks bigtime in my book. and we get it 5 months out of the year. most newcomers that move out here just buy some kind of 4x4 and then figure they are invulnerable. flying down the icy roads at 65+ mph - until they end up in the barrow pit - crazy crazy. I worry about the wild things too, but

all my kids are grown, but it made a huge difference in my wintertime perspective when they were young. THAT was fun - snow forts, inner tubing, etc. coming in just long enough to change & warm up. now I just push though to spring. hell, I don't even cross country much anymore. but my dogs love it so its not ALL bad. Smile

still I think of Dec 28 as the first day of spring - days slowly getting longer, etc. "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" just ain't my thing.

We just came home with a tree to decorate and I plan on making some hot coco tonight. Smile

It's been raining here the last two days...parts of San Diego recieved almost 2 inches! We really needed the precipitation, but the damage from the recent fires lead to flash-flood warnings and mudslides. I guess that's enough 'Winter' for me right now.

Party on.
oh yeah!

My two oldest boys (early twenties) are out on their own now, but we still have two boys at home, the youngest being six.

As far as the SUV thing goes I've seen more SUV's in the ditch during/after snow storms than cars on numerous occasions. Says something about winter drivers, eh?

Hey Kylo... guess it's time to break out the thermal undies if they're gonna make you stand outside. Shiver me timbers!!!

No christmas tree yet, but I'm sure Leanne will be draggin' out the decorations over the next couple weeks gettin' into the spirit and all.

Cool, right on.

Current Radar Image

My hometown is right smack dab in the middle of that image.

Right now I can't see across the street and the talk is that scenario likely won't change 'til maybe Tuesday. I already dug a foot o' snow out of my drive-way yesterday.

Woah WTF!?

Thanks, La Nina!!

yeah, we just went through that. three days and nights of 50+ mph winds. gusts that knocked you down. started with snow - white out - closed all the roads due to 2 foot drifts - glad I didn't have to try to get to work. it was a real trick trying to feed the horses. snow plumes and spirals like the those shots of the surface of the sun. now the temp has shot up to 45 degrees F and its raining - horizontally - the wind hasn't let up a bit. better than snow though. off to turn out the horses. big fun - enjoy No good

Everything has settled down considerably since yesterday. Roads are still snow covered and slippery. Took longer than usual to get to work last night and the drive home this morning was a tad slow, but not too bad really.

Hope you got yourself dug out and the horses fed. Any of the farms I pass the horses have been out enjoying the snow. One farm has a couple heavy horses (Belgians) and they were chasing each other around the yard having fun kicking up the fresh snow.

Cool, right on.

actually didn't need to dig out - the rain just melted everything - including the snow pack on the mountain - so now the concern is flooding. the west side of the state is a mess. we're basically ok. spent a good part of last night with a lantern and ropes lashing down everything I could. I noticed on the way to work this morning a few small buildings got tossed. but we're not pushing boats down mainstreet - that's a good thing Very Happy

yep dogs and horses have a whole different perspective on the weather Laughing

No kidding. It snowed about 5 inches on two occassions over the past 2 weeks or so where I live... having to drive home after work when it's all coming down bites like nobody's business. Not only because you totally lose control of the car if you start slipping, but also because your windows start fogging up like crazy, and there's nothing you can do about it when the defroster doesn't want to do its job... and your windshield wipers are freezing, and no longer clearing the ice off your windshield, which is now starting to gather slush and ice in ways that make it very difficult to see the road in front of you... in the darkness that is post-dusk.

I don't know

On the bright side, this video is kind of funny.
