I've got the "Back to Work" blues...

This is soooo hard! I have been crying all day. Leaving my son with my Mom so I could go back to the office today (after three months) has been almost impossibly difficult. The office is a disaster and I can't stop thinking about the baby. I know this will get easier with time, but damn! No fun!

You don't get maturnity leave?
Up here mat leave is twelve months, paid for by the government (I believe it's 60% of your earnings are covered) , and it can be split between both parents. The job you leave is filled by temp help and is, generally, waiting for you to return. It's pretty much a God given hard faught for right and it's pretty difficult for a company to deny an employee without having a *very* good reason to.
Is that not the case were you are??

I'm sure Lou will reply and give you a more detailed answer - but the general jist is, 'yes' but it is quite limited. I think the max amount of time off is 3mo. It is paid leave, but her boss cut her hours in 1/2 right after she notified him that she was pregnant - so of course, we only received 1/2 of her salary when she had her maternity leave.
I'm so happy that Lou only has to work 2 days each week, and on those two days, her mom watches Gid for us.
Although... I'd love the 12mo maternity leave you are talking about!

The dirty rat...

Though I'm sure he(?) had a *really* good reason to..

Gramma's make the best care givers in the world. And bonding with family's best of all...

It's expensive to be sure (personal income tax wise) but it's worth every penny of it, 'cause babie's first twelve months are the most critical and being able to be there for/with your child during that important time in their life (of course every minute is important during their whole lives) is every bit worth fighting for. Indeed the government of Canada was *very* gracious in allowing both parents (the deal is actually referred to as parental leave up here) the opportunity to benefit from the bonding/raising of our lil' ones is a sweet deal to be sure..
I... or rather we... wish that your governments (state and federal) would do more to help families in your country. Help them stay together, help them commit to their children... our most precious commodity in our lives... with more and better programs designed to ensure our children are not raised by strangers and/or the state. Parents make the best care-givers. Especially when both are commited 100 plus percent to their upbringing.
On a side note, the talk around the water coolers up here, so-to-speak, has been about Obama being so smitten with our health care system. He's been talking about it as an example of how things could be made beter for Americans. Not to copy it directly but use it as an example. He could do worse. Of course the opposition is all up in his face about being a socialist, but all that tells us Canookies is that his detracters know nothing about canada. Socialist policies not withstanding, we do pay dearly for the services we enjoy, but the benefits far outway the costs.
Anywho...
Enough about that.
I/we hope Lou gets over being away from Lil' Gid. Hope the seperation anxiety isn't too taxing on her.

My job offered me no maternaty leave at all, the state usually pays for only six weeks, but because I had a C-section I was paid for 8. The other four weeks I took with no pay at all. I could not imagine a whole year at home with him. That would be amazing! Gideon only took 3 days off (with pay) to be with Gid, but of course, he works from home, so that is a little different.
Yesterday was a very hard, very bad day, but today it was a little easier. Gideon filled up my digital picture frame with a ton of images of baby Gid so now, while I'm sitting at my desk 'working' I can look over and see beautiful pictures of my little man.
We really do need to do something about our healthcare. We have friends from Canada who told us a lot about it when they came to visit. We spend (out of our own pockets) $1100 a month on health insurance. My job pays nothing. It's really hard, but it's also really necessary. I would love to see Obama make the changes that no one else has had the balls to do. So you've heard them call him a Socialist, eh? Word down here is that he's a Fascist. Hmmmm.... I guess you get called all kinds of names when you are a proponent for change.
I MISS MY BABY!!!!!! Ok....I'm better now.

Seriously...
I feel *really* awful now. Especially since I get almost complete coverage for my whole family.. well not the older two boys since they are adults now and responsible for their own coverage... but my two youngest, Leanne and myself get full coverage for mere pennies on the dollar compared to you guys. I'm talkin' the likes of $50/month and we're covered. Health, dental, drugs, hospital... with very little (mostly the cosmetic stuff) not covered in some way or fashion. And people on welfare pay nothing and get %100 coverage. Nobody goes without. Of course depending on the level of service you require you may have to wait, but if you need it you get it. It's not perfect mind you, but it works.

Yeah... whenever he points to Canada and our public health policies he gets called a socialist for some reason. There's very little knowledge behind the acusations, though. Just ignorance and fear mongering driven by jealous intent and an overwhelming desire to make themselves look better.

The feds should've spent the bailout money on reforming healthcare instead.
Kudos to you and Big Gid for toughing it out and making a go of it despite fiscal odds being against you.

awr... I'm sorry Lou!
Yeah 3 months is very little time; it's not easy being green-- or getting it right?? (words of Kermit the Frog for those that didn't watch sesame street)
Well little Gideon will get to know his grandma much better this way. I'm glad I was able to grow up on the same 40 acre property as the maternal side of my family so my grandparents were right next door! It was great considering we all went "to town" together and fished in our own pond.
I'm going on a tangent but it's a good thing!! My Aunt Sally(the numerologist) read his numbers from the birth date for a minute and proclaimed he would develop an acute sense of fashion so he'll be stylin' when he gets older down the road!
Thought you'd like to hear that...
Speaking of which, I know I've already posted about my aunt a long time ago; prolly during the B-board days but this is my aunt's website: http://www.sfnumber.com/ It's all free and the only thing that costs $150 an hour is calling her on the phone and speaking with her. A lot of people will say "Nah, not worth it" but by the end of the reading the same person will be addicted and can't hear enough about themselves and family and their co-worker's dog nipper.

Wow! Only $50????? Amazing! Ours is medical only, does not cover dental or vision at all. I have $$$$$$ worth of dental work I need done and no idea how or when we will be able to afford it. It is a very real, very sad part of living in America. I used to have coverage when I worked for the State, but even then I was paying $150 a month just for the two of us. I've heard it has gone up since I left, too.
And yes, Kylo, you are right about the baby and my Mom having some good bonding time together. I was lucky, like you, growing up. When we living in Santee my Dad's parents lived right around the corner from us and then when I was 6 we moved to El Cajon and my Mom's parents were right around the corner from us, so I was always able to walk to visit either sets of my Grandparents. My Mom's folks (and grandparents....my GREATgrandparents) watched me while she worked and so much of who I am today, what I like and don't like are because of those years and experiences with them. I think it's very important for kids to have those multi-generational relationships. So yes, I'm lucky to have the help and Gid's lucky to get to spend time with them.
It's getting easier. I just need to be able to clear my head while I'm at work and FOCUS, otherwise I am not going to get anything accomplished, other than missing my baby boy.
