I have some great news. I am now officially a professional videomaker! Last week I got a job at a local production company doing editing, graphics, and shooting full-time. My first project is a music video for an R&B artist.
Here are some pics from last Saturday's shoot. It was a pretty big shoot. Most of the footage was shot on a 50 foot crane, which is kind of hard to do in the forest and over water.
We still have another day or so of shooting to schedule. Everything is turning out really great on this. It will probably get some airtime all over the country, we think.

Woah~ Congrats man! That's impressive
Boy-o-boy, from the looks of it, the guy's a smooth operator~ (she's very troubled by his one-minded gesture?) I wonder if the scene goes to a cabin bedroom later ay? Strike the pose
hehe, please don't tell me if you get into that cliche. jk.
So now explain this "cut my foot three times" shot---
We all want to know.
And a crane?? Are there shots of them climbing trees or something!?
And why- Why the hell do girls always dig guys that wear two shirts all the time?

I'm glad you got your break
Don't hate me, but I kinda cringe at those pictures. But the photography does indeed look excellent. It's just not my kinda subject matter
I hope you have fun, cuts on feet or no cuts on feet, and that this opens the way for more possibilities for you
I will teach you the significance of insignificance

I should clarify that that the company I work for specialized in "diversity marketing," meaning that nearly everything we do is meant for an African-American audience, or always has something about ethnic or social justice issues.
This particular artist actually is pretty smart, in that his music targets teens and always has a positive, non-violent message. Even so, once the musicians arrived (in their Porsches and Lexii, of course) , it did sort turn into bit of a cliche. I mean, especially the whole "entourage" thing. They probably brought 20 people with them... dancers, sisters, managers, roadies, etc.
Quote:So now explain this "cut my foot three times" shot--- Well, there was an issue with shadows on their faces, and you really can't set up lights on a dock. So I took off my shoes, rolled up my pants and waded into the water, holding a big sunlight reflector. I must have stepped on a broken bottle or something, because when I came back out of the water, my foot was totally bleeding everywhere. 3 big slits, forming a triangle covering my whole foot. ouch.
Quote:And a crane?? Are there shots of them climbing trees or something!? No, the actors were just walking around on the ground. It's a smooth song, so the camera is smoothly gliding around trees and through the air, and all that. It looks really slick.
Today I'm making a graphics package for a new show about organ donation. ha ha.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm complaining about what I do. I think it's actually pretty good on stuff that's for a good cause. I mean, at my internship, I was working on advertising for stuff I really don't care about -- usually the big Wisconsin corporations who make beer & tractors and junk like that. It's so hard to find a job in this field in this area that's not just advertising.

Wow, cool. I've seen those still camera setups where the camera operator wears a harness that has some preloaded springs etc. Mechanically engineered to "smooth out" the shock to a camera while someone's walking with it... I forget exactly what it's called but I watched it on the science channel on Discoveries This Week; talking about a new setup for a shock-cancelling arm attatched to a big cam on a harness...etc... I wish I could provide a link but... yeah.
I saw it, maybe it's more cost affective for a lot of things. Like, besides a crane perhaps, but it is a new thing. But that'll do the job better I'd think is a 50 foot crane that is gaurenteed to not have "any" shock whatsoever unless 'bob the crane operator' spills coffee in his lap etc...just kiddin. lol, I know, you're probably working with a very cool group for this.
Also, When I was talking about cliches, I was referring to the porn industry, not African American tendancies to over-do hip-hop 'get the girl' music videos... Although there are a lot of them.
