Have any of you tried out the 'remix' site/services that went online last year?
The general idea, is that they provide an interface similar to Sony ACID, and Apple GarageBand where you can create songs by adding tracks and mixing various samples and loops.

While I'm sure it's great fun for some people - especially those who never try this with real software, but for those who live in a sequecer/studio, I would think something like JamGlue and SpliceMusic are far too limited.
Nonetheless, this is all new, they're evolving, and anything that gets people to try to make music is a good thing.
I'm sure we'll see more and more commercial artists releasing songs on sites like these. They'll see it as a promotional vehicle.
We're moving into that stage where the concept of a song is becoming multidimensional - it's not just a song any longer - it's an entity an artist creates, and the general public mutates. Why listen to the original version over and over... when there can be 5,000 or 20,000 versions?
I can see this idea expanding into revenue sharing too. For example, you login to a site, create a remix of a new popular Hip Hop release, but your version rocks harder... so people start downloading it and buying it. Since you are the one who generated those sales, you would earn a percentage. A system like this would cause many of those publishers and labels who are not hip to sampling and remixing to realize that it would be better to join in and earn, than to sit back and sue.

Hmmm, it's nice for some to fiddle a bit with the music on these sites, but to me it's not interesting enough. If I make a remix I just want to get hold of a few samples and start working on them in a 'real' sequencer...adding my own sounds, fx, etc.
These online systems aren't just interesting enough because of the min. amount of parameters...I want total control!
And I doubt if anyone can really produce something what is really different from the 'original'' if you can speak of an 'original' off course....
