I must have this:
Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08
It's getting great reviews, sounds incredible, and is real analog:
Seems fairly priced at $2000 for the key model. Now I just have to convince my wife that this is a very important life changing youth making machine

I was just researching that same thing yesterday. How does it compare to other high end cards you've had?

Frankly I think they're all the same. At least for the purposes of recording synths. The Layla has a nice headphone output at the front, which is kind of useful. And the Vista driver seems to be stable.
Hmm I'm not so keen on the Prophet. From the demos on their website it sounds kind of sameold to me. Does it really make that much difference that it's real analog? And no effects either. I dunno. Do they have one in Sam Ash down there to try out?

I called about that today actually, but they don't have one yet and I'll have to drop a deposit to get them to order one.
As for being analog I think it matters when trying for analog warmth. I own a Korg MS2000BR, which is virtual analog, and it sounds cold.
