Yosemite is beautiful - I went there when i was about 13. Sadly I got altitude sickness and ending up hurling over most of it and we had to curtail our visit. Sad

That's a drag man. I too felt like I was dry heaving up toward the top. If I wouldn't have been rushing myself I would've been more comfortable. A dumb thing I did was carry one of the girls we had with us for about a 4th of a mile uphill because she was too exhausted to make it. We didn't want to leave her behind so I offered to be a mule for a couple steps. Very Happy

That's when I started to feel puky...

Sometimes carryng a lemon helps with altitude sickness I hear; but that may be rumor since the "lemon on a boat" thing is what I think that home remedy's for.

Sweet pics, Kylo! Cool, right on.

Your pictures were a WONDERFUL way to start my day...with a smile and a laugh!

I have not been to Yosemite in over 12 years, but I did have a very special experience when I was there, since I went as a guide/chaperone for the Yosemite Institue and we were camping and hiking during the 'closed' season. You want to see Yosemite? See it when you are one of the only people there! Rah!! Downside: cold and snow. Still, snow camping at 10,000 ft is a cool experience. I was lucky enough not to have any issues with the altitude, my real problem was the cold.

Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us. It brought back a lot of memories for me and honestly, made me a little envious, too. It looked like you had a great time. Wink

Wow that's some cool pics. I was there when I was 12. It was crowded and I'm talking 1968! I still remember everything about it. It's just one of those places that is so special it changes you fundamentally. Thanks! Very Happy

So true. So true. Smile

One of my first jobs was working at a vintage clothing store. Occasionally we would get a few antiques as a trade-in. I bought a photo album from 1924 that was of a family's vacation to Yosemite. It was amazing! I brought it with me years later when I went with the Y.I. It was a wonderful learning tool, taking the kids around and comparing the trees and locations in the photos to the current conditions. Seeing the ladies in high heels and dresses, the men in full suits, walking around looking at Mirror Lake, kids in sailor suits playing in the camp ground...man...things have changed!Laughing

Thanks again, Kylo, for bringing back such cool memories for all of us.

looks great man - we just saw some other friends photos from Yosemite too. Did you see a million squirrels?

I have a photo that is very similar to your falls one - with the rainbow. I'll see if it's on a drive and upload it.

Me - I nearly died just getting to those first falls, I can't believe you were running up that trail! Shocked

Glad you guys appreciate it! 10,000 feet is waaaay up there- which formation were you on? Do you remember?

Tons of extraverted squirrels too, they practically jumped onto your hand to get food crumbs.

Most the ecosystem toward the bottom of the hike was kinda F'd up because all the critters where waiting around for hikers to throw them their bologna sandwiches & stuff. That was the only negative thing I noticed but on the cool side- best place to socialize with wild animals. Even the birds seemed to hop onto your arm just about. Magical or malestical, you can decide on that one. Razz

I wasn't about to socialize with the rattle snake though... What's funny about that is that when I saw him coming, I had nowhere else to go but backward. If I would've stepped to the side off the stairs, the hill would make an evasive movement ten times harder. But TOTALLY AWESOME EXPERIENCE!! It was an adventure of a lifetime for sure- and next time I'm gonna save myself 8 miles of treading by base jumping off the next rock over there. Smokin'!

(I wish) Base jumping halfdome would be a memory alright... WTF?

Damn... that looks like a lot of fun. But I'd need to be in a hellova lot better shape than I am right now to do that, that's for sure.

cheers to you, man!!

The pictures are Cool, right on.

Wow...someone is in a 'mood'. Anger - grrrrrr!

One of the reasons I loved going in the winter was the absolute lack of evidence of human disturbances to the park: no traffic, no trash, no noise, no tourists...it truly was magical. It also made it easier to imagine what it must have been like hundreds of years ago. Smile

Kylo, sorry, I cannot remember the name of the area that particular hike was in. Maybe if I dig out the photo album from that trip (I know I kept notes) I might be able to answer that for you. I can tell you we hiked a mile straight up, in snow-shoes, with 35lb packs on our backs. The best part was me trying to "lead" my group while I kept falling over backwards like a turtle with that damn pack! Laughing Once we reached our destination we dug out a snow kitchen and made soup. That right there is probably the BEST memory from that entire trip. Cool, right on.
