Hi - welcome to ArtistServer
When posting to the forums, please try to use a forum category that fits your topic. While certainly the 'world affairs' category could cover fear of dying, this would be better off in 'the lounge' - which is for general discussions on any topic.
To answer your question... it's impossible for a person who is not in the face of death to answer what it means to face dying.
Everything we know is based on perception and experiences, if you have no experience of death, you only know it from the outside and can only speculate. Yet, what we think and what we actually feel when thrust into an emergency situation are often two different things.
One of the best courses I took in college was called "Psychology of Death and Dying" - after the class was about 1/2 way through, I felt it should have been a required course for all students. For once, we were discussing a topic that was at the core of our existence, AND we were able to not get wrapped up in religious topics. Nearly every class session, someone would open up and share a story, and there were always at least 1 person in tears before the class was over. We signed up for a class, and instead were given an enriching life experience.

I know I have a finite number of years left. Perhaps less than 20. I face death by saying to myself that I finally get to find out what's there after life, if anything. Death becomes an adventure. An interesting event. That takes some of the sting out of it.

I used to be a Christian, and death was a scary uncertainty to me. Your eternal fate dependent upon your performance or whether you believe hard enough is a very scary matter.
I have since learned a lot about the world around me and have moved past religion. I now see thigns objectively, and according to what I see, the purpose of life is what we give to it. Everyone wants to live, but that's because we're taught in society that life is precious and death is something bad. Yet, we know that death is a part of life. I think possibly originally, our survival instincts taught us to fear death. Just as they taught us how important love is.
The way I choose to see it now, is that there is no point to live, and no point to die. So we might as well do what we do best and experience the experience of life while we can. Constantly learning and fearing nothing.
The biggest failure of mankind so far in my eyes is the failure to see that all of our experiences in life can be much greater if we all cooperated instead of needlessly competing with each other. The idea of ownership has held us back as a species. If we all focused on having a better experience while we are alive without holding others back, then the world would be a very different place.
Instead people have ignorantly placed purpose on each own personal wants and needs above any other people's wants or needs. That is why we are in the situation we are in today with quality of life unfairly destributed across the world.
Whatever meaning death has for you, is what you've projected onto it.

Well... I have held death in my arms and I can tell you I fear becoming a deaf blind mute with no arms or legs more than I fear death.

Great. So if I wanna scare you, it can't be easy, like waving a gun around. With you, I gotta bring chainsaws and other heavy equipment.
(grumble grumble) There's one in every crowd.
Me and death: I'm just hoping the major stroke and/or heart attack I've been heading for for decades does the job the first time.
