The cost of the scare force one flight was about $60,000 an hour. That doesn't include the cost of the two F-16s that came along. The flight by the VC-25, a modified Boeing Co. 747, and two F-16 fighter jets cost $328,835. That includes $300,658 for the larger plane, which flew a three-hour mission, and about $28,178 for the F-16 jets, which flew 1.8 hours each.
It's not even a good photo. The composition is awful. Plus, you can see the reflection of the F-16's canopy in the top right portion of the shot. And, of course, the bill for cleaning the shit off New Yorker's pants has yet to be calculated...

 bad idea, poor execution, useless, and most definitely a shitty photo.
 better idea... hire a company that specializes in high definition photography, send them up in a helicopter to hover and take several photos of the background, then composite a 3d model of the plane onto the best version of the background. Although, that would still result in wasted money and a very uninteresting and useless product.
 even better idea... ask children to submit their own drawings of what the USA is, and put them all online for ppl to see.

Yeah... I totally do not understand why said gov went to that extreme, and such great expense, to do something that easily could've been accomplished using any number of alternative methods. And to do this without any regard for the good citizens of New York was just plain shameful.
At least the fucktard responsible got his arse fired. I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall when his boss hauled him up onto the carpet for it.
